Tonights match-up against the Panthers and the week one opener against Pitt. should be very good barometers of where this team is.
Carolina's Defense is formidable to say the least and their offense is above average as well. They (Steve Smith) toasted us through the air last fall but we still got the WIN baby.............. so it should be interesting to see how our banged-up and heavily bombarded secondary plays tonight. I just hope the mental miscues have been ironed out becuase I can't see them running particularly well (see Truck and Big Daddy:wink: and the alpha-dogs) against us.
I don't know if Smith is playing but they have added Keyshawn so they have good options through the air.
As stated prior this will be a good test for us, but as quiet as it is kept I think the panthers and really quietly the steelers, two teams predicted to be in the thick of it come January sense that the Dolphins are a good test for their squads as well.:D (I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside)

Peace.........................................

The defense will be a great test to see how the offense does, especially the ol. The past teams in the preseason have been held to3 points by the first string D

Love this matchup several ways; 1. good test for our offense, as their D is tough, and 2. good test of our secondary with Steve Smith & Keyshawn in there with DelHomme. (Don't you just LOVE Berman's "daylight come and I wanna DelHomme" ??? I do)

I digress, this matchup will be very good for Saban, Mularky and Capers to see just how far their team has come and how far they need to go, to get ready for Pittsburgh. Won't somebody PLEASE turn ahead the damn clock to game time? I can't wait!!!

I think our secondary is going to have a tough time with Key and Smith.....noone is fast enough for Smith, and I dont think we have anyone tall enough for Keyshawn.

Will Allen has the speed to stay with Smith, but, Smith won't be playing due to an ingrown toenail or something along those lines.

And height is overrated. Everyone always says the height will make a big difference, but with Keyshawn, I doubt it.

Our starting offense hasn't scored on a starting defense either.

Our current corners aren't really any shorter than they were when Keyshawn was playing for the Jets. I never recall him giving us a lot of trouble then. It was always that damned Chrebet.

This is probably one of the most important preseason games that I can remember. Our OL will get a major test today against a good front seven. Starters will be playing into the 3rd quarter, so it will be hotly contested. Our defensive front has looked amazing, it will be interesting to see how we do against Williams and Foster. Not sure if Steve Smith is playing, but our secondary will have its hands full with Keyshawn and Colvert. Probaby the biggest impact of this game will be how Daunte responds psychologically to being back where his career almost ended. 8pm can't come any sooner!!
