[QUOTEThe Texans’ Monday night release of longtime right tackle Eric Winston caught a lot of folks by surprise.
FOX Sports’ Alex Marvez reports that the Texans cut Winston with a “failed physical” designation.
Per Marvez, Winston underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery in February. He anticipates receiving full medical clearance in two weeks, and has already begun scheduling visits.
Winston visited the Dolphins on Tuesday night.
Florio has reported that Winston also plans to visit the St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs.][/QUOTE]

its fishy to me. if this guy is as good as ppl make him out to be why cut him if he is suppose to be cleared in two weeks. just dont want another craplombo

Winston has proven to be durable throughout his career. He was one of the best, if not THE best, RT in football last season. Columbo had a major drop-off in player before getting here. Winston was good all of last year, so I don't think adding him would be Turnstyle part II. Texans may have wanted to gain more cap space to make a run at resigning Mario Williams or for another FA at a position of need.

Winston will be fine. Basically the Texans went into the offseason feeling like they needed to keep at least 2 of Arian Foster, Chris Meyers, and Mario Williams. They also want to keep Matt Beisel. They signed Foster.

Winston is probably the best RT in the league. If our docs clear him - we should sign him on the spot.
We have several things in our favor too. He played at UM, his agent is Rosenhaus and his brother is a Dolphins scout.

The reason they listed as releasing him was the injury, but he was really released because the Texans are f*cked cap wise. They needed the cap space.

If Winston is healthy he would be a good signing althogh over the years he hasnt been exactly as great as some people are making out to be
