...why not try and run the clock out? I mean that was a lot of time left for anybody let alone thomas bradchen. With three timeouts too?

I am with Simms. Run your plays and score a TD. Maybe one run, but score a TD and close it out on defense. Imagine if they got conservative and settled for 3 and Brady got his team in a spot to make a winning FG?

I have little issue with the stragey.

Who is to say we would have scored on a run? We might have had to settle for a fg which gives Brady the chance to drive less down the field for a winning field goal. You have a chance at a td which forces the pats to score a td then you take it, right there.

Yes true but you score when you can score. You cannot get too cute there because then it may come back and bite you where you end up forcing a bad play to try and get 7.

Would you rather Thigpen take a knee at the 1, or score the TD? Of course you take the TD. It doesn't matter how much time is left on the clock.

Most the time this forum complains that we don't convert in the red zone. Wasting the clock or running lowers the chance of conversion. Be happy we converted

Score when you can. They would have used three time outs if we ran. If we ran unsuccessfully Caleb would be kicking and who knows how that goes. Then Tom would have, what, 45 seconds left to get into FG range. Good TD- trust the D. Tom Brady won't admit it, but he loves the D.

Yeah but running down the clock doesn't help if you don't score a TD. You can';t assume you will no matter how close to the goalline. You want to milk the clock down, but also get a TD when you have the chance. I didn't want this game to be played for a tie and to go to overtime. Get the winning score and let the d take care of it. If Brady scores and wins, then dolphins don't deserve to win. Luckily fins won, and the defense bent, but didn't break at the end.

there would have been an outrage if Thigpen caught the ball and took at knee at the 1 yard line. Could you imagine 3-4 plays later we don't score… Take the score and let Brady work his magic…

If you have a chance for a TD, you need to take advantage of it regardless of the time on the clock. It was the right call, the right thing to do and you then take your chances with your defense.

There was a lot of bashing on the game day thread over the use of our time outs as the Patriots were driving.....but in fact, it was a very smart move as it gave us time to drive the field ourselves and kept the whole playbook open.

Overall, a well coached game.

this is dumb. you score the td there 100 times out of 100. if it was tied then i got no problem running the ball and playing for a fg with as little time left as possible. but losing? no way, you take the touchdown.

Youre trailing. Youre in no position to start trying to manipulate clock. Get the go ahead points and then worry about that. If the game had been tied at the time, or we were trailing only by 1 or 2 and already in range for a chip shot, then there is some validity to the argument.

Score the TD. We're not good enough to pick and choose how and when to score. Only good enough to score as soon as we can.
