ARLINGTON, Texas – If the Miami Dolphins made Erik Walden a scapegoat when they cut him earlier this season, they also freed him up for what’s been a highly rewarding season with the Green Bay Packers.

The Dolphins cut Walden after their third game because he was responsible for a blocked punt against the New York Jets. The move didn’t improve their special-teams performance – the next week against the New England Patriots, their special teams melted down and gave up a blocked punt, a blocked field goal and kick-off return for a touchdown that cost special-teams coach John Bonamego his job.

The Packers signed Walden on Oct. 27, four weeks after the Dolphins cut him.

After Frank Zombo’s knee injury, Walden locked down the job as the starter at right outside linebacker because of his play over the last five games, including winning NFC defensive player of the week for 16-tackle, three-sack performance against Chicago in the regular-season finale.

This one really hits home, I hate when we cut players who turn out to be stars elsewhere

I would hardly call Walden a star. He played better than he ever did here but 25 tackles 3 sacks thats better than his other three years combined but does not make a star. He basically made all his stats in the final game of the year but all year he did nothing as usual. Definately has been nothing special in playoffs. Three games 9 tackles 1 sack

How is this not about the Dolphins. You guys are killing me.

this is erroneous.. the packers gave him more than just special teams play, while we barely gave him any playing time at all. I always felt Waldon was a better player than these DB's gave him credit for, and I was right. I hope he gets a ring. I hope he has another 16 tackle, 3 sack game, not only because I want GB to win, but to make this coaching staff and FO look like the morons most of know they really are.

This is very Dolphin related, guys. Jeez. This says volumes about our team and FO. How accountable do we hold our team for this drop? Why did we choose to scapegoat Walden of all people? How did he never get any burn as an OLB? Strange, black mark from this past season that deserves to be discussed.

i can agree with that. not sure why this goes to general and every freakin vince young rumor or whatnot stays in finsforums. Not very consistent on the mods part. Walden has more to do with Miami than VY does.

Mods.. you need to move this back to the main dolphin forum.

He only stood out the one game and it was 12 tackles 3 sacks great game yes but he is averaging three tackles a game in the playoffs which is far from awesome. We both know we have morons running the team but cutting Walden was the right thing at the time

this statement just shows that we have a bunch of guys making rash decisions and not thinking them through. Waldon was one of our best special teamers over the past few years, he then misses one block and get cut just because these jackasses wanted to prove something. And as the writer stated, the special teams didnt get better. so that even moreso proves they made a rash decision that hurt the team more than helped it. I believe Carpenter also missed two blocks that led to blocked punts but he wasnt cut for a few more games.

I get your point and I do somewhat agree. Carpenter was pretty bad this year and I for one am quite concerned

It just shows what we did early in the season was a knee jerk reaction. Walden was a decent player who should have gotten some more playing time.

Fair play to him, he really took advantage of the injuries the Packers suffered during the season and now he will be starting in the Superbowl on Sunday.

Gotta give the guy credit.

Walden didn't do a single thing in Miami in his entire career. Hell he didn't even do anything for the Packers this year aside from the Bears game. He's only getting the chance to play b/c someone else is hurt. The Dolphins weren't wrong for cutting him. He's lightning in a bottle, nothing more.

Why would he have another game of 16 tackles? He had 24 tackles total in eight games with GB this year. The staff are morons for cutting a guy who makes 300k a year?
