Green Bay Post Gazette: Talks Packers Coaching Situation

If you are Tom Clements do you want to be the OC for a team where you do not call the plays or the OC for a team where you will call the plays. Further if he stays in Green Bay he may not get as much credit for their success compared to if he comes to Miami where if they do well he will get the Lions share of the credit. If I was him, I'd look to blaze a new trail.

And I selfishly I hope he does that, he's the main reason I'd be OK with the Philbin hire.

Here's what it boils down to for me.

Same job, but weather and climate in Miami > weather and climate in Green Bay

We'll see. I hope he comes over. It would be pretty darn sweet to get a few guys in here who know how to develop quarterbacks

Well, on top of that, clements is the QB coach if not mistaken. I think thats what we are looking for in getting a franchise QB to groom.

and I agree with the above post about blazing a new trail. If successful here in Miami, then Clements resume starts to look really good. He was successful here in this situation, and successful there in that situation.

I thought if it was a promotion a team cannot stop them from leaving. When did this change?

As long as a coach is under contract, the team can deny a request to interview or take a job with any other team regardless of a promotion. This happened two years ago when the Bears wanted to interview Tom Clements for their OC position; the Packers denied the request.

I just hope they move very fast on this as the seniorbowl is near and I'd live to see the coaching staff in place before that or at least the OC and DC.

Ozzy rules!!

Clements has also interviewed for Indy and Tampa head coaching jobs so he may be a head coach.

If Bowles decides to head elsewhere, my bet would be on Mike Trgovec or Darren Perry for DC

Bowles the exceptions.

HAYDEN: you say you dont want a first time d/c but BOWLES is ok? why is that exactly?

he has coached secondary for 3 teams now and his units were ALL in the bottom portion of the leauge.

how does this translate into a good choice, where he will have even MORE responsability. if this was someone coming in from another team the brass hired for d/c and you saw as an assistant his untis FAILED everytime, you would throw a FIT!! and rightly so.

so how in the hell does bowles get a pass? he's a JOKE! the only reason he is employed here [and in dallas] was the fact he is one of parcells "guys". like ireland is.

without "this guy said", or its been rumoured, or this guy thinks, or i think, tell me what you KNOW! tell us all what YOU KNOW that will make bowles a good d/c. in dallas and miami coaches dont talk to the media so its not like you have fallen in love with his fiery personality. and i dont think you pal around with him or your related, correct?

so why? i havnt seen one tweet from a player on this team BEGGING for ross to make him d/c. and we would see it if they wanted him and were in love with him like some media goofs say they are.

why haden? its not to flame, i just want to know why you and a few others love this failure so much?

I would hope Philbin could look beyond his own nose when it comes to these coaches. It's important to have some guys with you that you know will get with the program, especially on offense which is his specialty, but if Todd Bowles leaves I would hope he opens up the defensive coordinator search and finds a qualified guy. Guys like Jim Tomsula, Jim Leavitt and perhaps Ed Donatell, all out of San Francisco...deserve interviews. Donatell was Mike Sherman's DC in Green Bay for a while. Not sure how that ended.

The exception is Mike Trgovac who has experience as a Defensive Coordinator and actually coached some good defenses. If he wanted to give him an interview I wouldn't mind. But the GB defense was nothing special this year and I don't know if I'd be all about assuming that one of the assistants on a not-good defense should definitely be our defensive coordinator just because Philbin knows him.

Say NO to Bowles the FO did whether right or wrong "honour" Bowles - if he does leaves that is great with me - I think he blows I think he was coaching and under-achieving team with house money - I think his secondary blows and we could use a full change - I am down with that

Well said

Tom Clements could become the OC of the Packers or Philbin could offer him the job here...the difference, beyond working with Aaron Rodgers and already outstanding offense, would be the chance to call plays which he won't do in Green Bay since McCarthy does that. Clements was an OC in Buffalo under Mularkey I think and that didn't work out to well, I bet he would love another shot to redeem himself. Plus Clements tried to get the PSU job which makes me think he's anxious to become a HC somewhere at some point and becoming OC, and being play caller, would speed up his desire of being the head man somewhere.

There is also the possibility of Daboll staying. I think in his last year in Cleveland he implemented some elements of the WCO cause Holmgren wanted him and Mangini to make the transition...it wasn't full blown WCO but they put in more slant routes, quick passes and such.
