I feel like I'm becoming Greg's agent or something. What is this three times in a row now I've started a thread about Bedard's blog? Well, I've mostly started them in VIP now that I think about it...

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphins/content/sports/dolphins/dolphins_chat.html/?r=t

Anyway I thought he had some interesting comments. Chief among them, though, was this nugget...

Travis of Jupiter: Can we really expect Trent Green to live up to all the hype the media has put around him? Was the trade not a "you scratch my back ill scratch yours" kind of deal between Green and Coach Cameron? What is the real reason Cam Cameron doesn't want Daunte Culpepper to compete for the starting QB job?

Greg Bedard: I think, once Trent gets adjusted to his new players, you will be pleasantly surprised. His problems last year, according to some very respected football minds that I've talked to, had nothing to do with his concussion. It had to do with Herman Edwards and his defensive mindset. The Chiefs went way conservative  a total change from what Green was used to  and put Green in some terrible down and distance situations. Who does that sound like Do-Fans?

I thought that was very interesting. Note the mention of "very respected football minds" that did analysis of Green and concluded that his play had nothing to do with the concussion and everything to do with the change in offense that Herm Edwards sponsored.

I thought this was also interesting...

CG from Ludlow: How are these minicamps different than last year under Saban? And do you think the players will respond better or worse as far as production?

Greg Bedard: Things are much more relaxed, since Saban's not out there (especially with the DBs) screaming at them. A lot of good, solid teaching going on. Cameron, which some of Saban's leftovers, has put together one heckuva a staff. Coaches at other places in the league rave about this staff

Also nice to hear this...

Mctruck of Marshall, Texas: What’s the hold up on signing contract for satele?

Greg Bedard: I’m sure it’s nothing. It’s only June 14. He and Drew Mormino told me this week that both deals should be done within the next week.

That's what I have been saying about him, yes the Concussion effected him, but to me it was more Edwards!

Well it would appear that "very respected football minds" agree with you there.

I think we all suspected that he might have been the victim of Herm Edwards' very Wannstedt-like approach to things but hearing Bedard refer to some football experts saying that makes me give it a lot more credence.

The question i have is why was Damon Huard not affected by Herm's Wanstedt esque play calling?

At times Huard was affected by Edward's Ultra Safe Playcalling. Think back to the game against us.

I think its just making excuses for poor play, play calling or not. So lets just blame the 4 games Daunte played on poor playcalling. I guess Huard is just better at picking up offenses. He faced three pretty good pass defenses in San Diego, Seattle and ST Louis and performed well against each of them. His two worst games were versus Pitt and Miami. Did Green play better pass defense, yes but he did not do well against any team other than Cleveland. You still have to give credit to a Qb that has an 11 to 1 td to interception ratio. You also can best believe that if Huard had not played pretty well, they would not have traded Green.

Well, the first two.... yeah. I don't know about St Louis though.

The St. Louis Rams had the #28 overall defense in the league. Quarterbacks assembled an 81.1 QB rating against them.

Quarterbacks assembled an 83.7 QB rating against the Seattle Seahawks. That ranks them the #26 pass defense in the league. You call that a good pass defense?

To each his own.

You named two NFC teams. NFC teams no longer count when talking about football. Fact of the matter is, if you look at Huard's splits you'll see exactly the caliber of teams he faced - you'll also notice who did most of the work. Huard threw 30 passes only 3 times - once against Arizona, once against Pittsburgh, and once against us. Two out of those three games he was completely dominated, as was LJ. You can best believe if Huard played so well, then Herm wouldn't have taken him out after the game against us. Thanks for your pessimism!

***EDIT***

To further illustrate my above point, Huard played in 10 games - 6 in the AFC and 4 in the NFC. His YPA, TD, INT and rating are as follows:

AFC:

YPA:6.4 TD: 3 INT: 1 Rating:77.9

NFC:

YPA:9.5 TD: 8 INT: 0 Rating:126.5

You tell me who padded his stats and who showed him what real, physical football was about.

Fact of the matter is that Damon Huard amassed a 98.0 QB rating against teams that allowed an average rating of 82.6 to quarterbacks this season.

Trent Green amassed a 74.1 rating against teams that allowed quarterbacks an average rating of 72.4.

THIS is what I mean by Trent Green played wholly better pass defenses than Damon Huard.

CK,

Was there ever any confirmation that the Miami D manhandled Huard so badly he was heard sobbing on the field?
