Greg Cote Article: Must Read IMO

Im actually terrified that they may win just enough games to save Tony and of course be middle of the pack like always.....I’ve seen enough in various stages with this FO to firmly believe they don’t have whats required to take us to a Superbowl...that is still the goal isn’t it?

"Dear Dolphins players: If it is your plan to foment a coaching change, you are doing a fine job. Don’t change a thing. If instead it is your desire to help the popular-with-players Sparano save his job, better act like it. Now."

Im not sure why I still hear this, that the players like and support Sparano. Nothing could be farther from the truth as he certainly is not popular with the players. This has been inherent going back into last year.

My only question to Mr. Ross is "What took you so long". Most fans who know the game knew over a year ago that Tony was not the guy.

after reading that its pretty much a foregone conclusion that Sparano will be fired. The only question is whether or not Ireland goes with him.

Well, can't say this season will be short on drama. Looking forward to see how Ross handles this mess.

Bring in Bill Cowher and let him bring his guys along with him, both peter king and chris mortenson both said where ever he goes he will pluck some guys from the steelers organization and bring them along, maybe Kevin Colbert the GM or Ron Hughes the college scouting coordinator, but most likely it would be Colbert who worked with Cowher and actually worked for the Dolphins as an advanced scout so he has familiarity with the dolphins organization, these guys have worked in one of the most successful franchises in all of sports and the way the rooney's run there franchise with such structure and direction had to rub off on these guys, they're the model of consistency and they know how to draft and find talent and get everybody on the same page and put structure into a franchise and that is what we so desperately lack, ross should bring them in and back off and let them put things together, cowher likes to pick his own personnel but he would work hand and hand with his front office and everybody would be on the same page,I also believe that one of the rooney's has a home in Miami and is friends with Ross, maybe Ross would consult with rooney about cowher I'm worried about gruden because I have read and heard on different occasions that he did not take the draft seriously and rubbed players the wrong way, I would love to have cowher and his guys down here and he has already said we would be one of his choices!

The article exposes the primary structural problem within the Dolphins organization: there is no one between the owner and the head coach who knows when to fire the head coach and has the authority to do so.

This was the problem with Huizenga until he hired Bill Parcells, and it appears to be a problem again.

The fact that the hiring and firing of a head coach is up to Stephen Ross is a problem. He needs to hire someone who does what Mike Holmgren does in Cleveland to fill that role.

We saw the debacle that can ensue when Ross tries to do this work himself: Jim Harbaugh.

There's no reason to believe that Ross wouldn't make a huge mistake in hiring Sparano's replacement, whether that be in the form of the person hired and/or how much power he is given.

Ross shouldn't be pulling this switch IMO. It should be a GM or a President of Football Operations who has the expertise to know when to do it and whom to hire as a replacement.

I know that when we contacted bill cowher last year carl peterson was the guy that placed the call, carl peterson was the one who brought cowher into the league in KC so it would make since for peterson to fill that role but IDK how i feel about Peterson, but if he sat back and let cowher do his thing it wouldn't be a big deal, maybe it could look something like this: Carl Peterson VP of football operations, Kevin Kolbert GM, Bill Cowher Head Coach.

Ive never liked anything Cote writes. Just last week he wrote more negativity stuff and now he claims to be an insider who is clamouring for players to play.

He is right but anyone with common sense could tell you that. I did just last night. Players get paid big money to play/work hard. period. a coach shouldnt have to tell you that!

You should want to aspire to great things. Not look for a big paycheck. you wont get that working for BB or anyone else if you show that here and now. Other teams know and are watching and dont ya think that the guy that gets fired will let the league know who is dogging? IT WORKS BOTH WAYS!

So im waiting to hear what cowher will say this weekend when they pose the question to him. lol

he will steer clear of miami. bad franchise in bad market.
