Greg Cote: The time is right for Miami Dolphins to hire Dan Marino

Elway is Executive VP and de facto GM. Let Hickey keep the title of GM and keep him around if he's any good.

It seems like the right time with Dan looking for a job and with all the problems in credability the Dolphins now have.

This could only help Tannehill's development along just having him around to talk to , give him a few tips

Elway is the GM now. I could see Marino coming in and easing his way in like Elway did. I could also see Ross wanting nothing to do with him because he's Stephen Ross and the dude is completely clueless when it comes to football.

Did we not try this before?

Marino wants a PR/Celeb type gig if he wants a job at all.

Highly doubt he wants to fly around and attend meetings and do actual REAL work. He would rather make some apperances, shake hands, take pictures and collect a check.

No Marino wants to be able to have some kind of say and not just a face! He got out of it before because he had no power and he had other commitments CBS being one of them. Which left not much time for his family! With CBS out of picture and Dan seeing what Elway is doing gives him a reason!

What exactly does Cote do for the herald? Besides writing fluff pieces (like this and the "hire a black gm" thing) and putting polls on the website

Maybe he is a great print journo *shrug*

The title should read "The time is right for Dan Marino to lace up and play QB for the Dolphins again"

You must have forgotten his last couple seasons. It was ugly, culminating in the Jacksonville massacre.

yea I usually don't search out his stuff but this article was pretty good.

This organization needs something. They almost have to do it I think. We desperately need a face for this franchise. Let Dan have a cush million dollar gig shaking hands and recruiting people. Then he can bring us in a new coach, which, even though I still have faith in philbin, seems imminent.

The OP keeps relating Marion to Elway in a business capacity. Elway actually had experience running a football franchise, being an executive in league offices, owning and operating car dealerships, and has some business and management acumen. Elway was qualified for the Broncos' GM position because of his business experience, not because he was an NFL QB. Greg Cote seems to think being an NFL QB is the qualifying factor for being a successful GM, and he's wrong. Marino has never run or managed anything. I love Marino, but a great player doesn't constitute a great businessman.

Doesn't Marino have a chain of restaurants?

That's why i think now may be the time to do it. Currently Nat Moore has a vp of something title. Do the same with Dan and who knows .H e may really get back into it and take on a higher position down the road. Cann't hurt Tannehill to have the master around sharing HOF tips.

Shula does . i think Dan has some connection to a pizza place. There once was a Marino's at CoCo Walkin the Grove but I believe it's long gone.
