Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Jason Grimsley is the latest name linked to the federal investigation of steroid use in baseball.

Thirteen federal agents searched Grimsley's house in Scottsdale, Ariz., for six hours Tuesday, according to Internal Revenue Service Agent Mark Lessler, who would not say what they found.

In seeking a judge's permission for the search, investigators who cracked the BALCO steroid scandal here said Grimsley initially cooperated in the probe. He withdrew his assistance in April, but not before he allegedly made "extensive statements" about illegal drug use, "for the purpose of performance enhancement," according to the court documents.

IRS Agent Jeff Novitsky told the federal judge that investigators wanted to search the right-hander's house for "any and all records showing contact or relationship with any and all amateur or professional athletes, athletic coaches or athletic trainers" regarding illicit drug use and purchases.

According to Novitsky, Grimsley told him the names of other players he believed were using, but the names of those players were blacked out of the court records.

Lawyer: Feds asked Grimsley for help in Bonds probe

Federal agents tried to pressure Jason Grimsley into wearing a wire during private conversations with other players to gather incriminating evidence against Barry Bonds, an attorney for the former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher said.

"It was a specific effort to target Bonds," Edward Novak told the Arizona Republic for a Thursday story. "We were told that Jason's cooperation was necessary to their case."

Novak also told the newspaper that Grimsley denied volunteering names of fellow players, as reported in court documents released Tuesday. Instead, federal agents asked Grimsley what he knew about the illegal drug habits of specific athletes, such as former Mets and Phillies outfielder Lenny Dykstra.
"They asked him specifically about Barry Bonds, and Jason said he didn't know Bonds well and didn't know if he did or didn't use drugs," Novak said.

The attorney said investigators asked Grimsley whether he was close to any San Francisco Giants players who might talk about Bonds. Grimsley refused, Novak said, and told investigators "baseball players don't go around talking about who is using and who isn't."

Can't wait to see which names those were. Rumors are flying like crazy that Sammy Sosa, Raphael Palmiero, Miguel Tejeda, Jason Giambi and Albert Pujols are mentioned in that document. But who knows. Hopefully this will finally lead to having the players get tests by having them give samples of BLOOD. That way everyone will know what exactly they're on.

Here's a link to some of those rumors, specifically Pujols:

It's funny that Jose Canceso and Jason Grimsley are going to help bring justice to baseball finally.

sosa? palmiero? giambi....give us names we dont already know!

if you dont think almost every NFL player is using this HGH stuff then ur out of ur mind because these NFL players are three times the size of these mlb players

Pujols image will get tarnished a little If he indeed was named...the players are going to HATE Grimsley for this.

1) Whocares if he is hated by other players! He better worry if he is hated by his cell mates.

2) Pujols image won't get tarnished a little.......it will get tarnished A LOT!!! He is just as bad as Bonds, Giambi, and everyone else. Lump him in the group! He gets no free pass here.

:yeahthat:

It sure brings Pujols defense of Bonds and the fact that "he (bonds) has never tested positive, and yet still ripped by the press, etc" into a whole new light.

Pujols came out of the blue in his defense of Bonds and now its possible his trainer is involved in the HGH issue.

No, its doesnt make Pujols quilty, just dirty to associate (ignorant or not) with folks who apparantly are involved in HGH distribution and use.
