An Elite MLB can cover TE's, blitz the QB and stop the run game. An Elite CB on the outside can only shutdown 1 player and possibly blitz every now and again. An Elite CB cannot stop play action and render it ineffective. An Elite MLB can shut down the run game and play action.
An Elite CB can take away 1/2 of the passing field. An Elite MLB can take away 1/2 of a team's game plan. Team's still threw against Deion Sanders' teams; they just didn't throw to him. Teams can't run against Elite MLBs, no matter which side they use.
MLB is a the bigger need and bigger reward. Or if you had to choose one, would you rather have Zach Thomas or Patrick Surtain?
Zach Thomas every day of the week.
As a franchise, we need to stop emphasizing attacking the edges (WR and CB) and start pouring resources into the middle of the field. We can't pressure the QB up the middle, we can't stop the run and we can't protect up the middle and run with authority.
MLB please. Then focus on G's and CB's.
