INDIANAPOLIS — In life, there are three guarantees — death, taxes and the Dolphins needing to upgrade their offensive line.

There aren’t many questions at tackle where Branden Albert will start on the left side and Ja’Wuan James on the right.Miami has spent years trying to improve the line and they made it their key focus in the 2014 offseason. But two years later, it’s still a priority. Ryan Tannehill has been sacked more than any quarterback in the NFL since he was drafted by Miami in 2012.
James missed the second half of the 2015 season with a toe injury and Albert spent much of the year regaining his form after a gruesome knee injury in 2014.

At center, Mike Pouncey is coming off his third consecutive Pro Bowl season, although he’s dealt with injuries of his own and had an undisclosed surgery a month ago. He said he expects to return for offseason practices.

Should the Dolphins consider moving Albert or James to Guard?
Should Pouncy be traded for pick(s)?
Your take? :ponder:

That leaves the guard spots where the Dolphins are in dire need of help.

I'd like to see at least 4 new starters... I'm not sure about James. They need a replacement for Albert because he WILL be injured, and Pouncey is nothing special and not worth the money he's getting. None of these guys are strong and/or tough enough to handle the D-lines in the AFC East. Philbin wanted an athletic, finesse o-line to block for his finesse offense, and we can all see that it was a complete failure.

FA Guard, draft for depth and an eventual Albert replacement (or continue grooming Turner for his natural spot) in mid-to-late rounds. We may be the only team in history to have so much trouble finding even an average starting guard, or lineman in general without having to throw a first round pick or big FA money at it.

After we find 2 new starting guard ,.....
Someone please teach Ryan to not hold on to ball

Can't all be done in one year. Plus too much turnover on the offensive line would be a tough transition. Draft a guard rounds 2-3; draft another late; sign one to start in FA, then sign a scrub FA guard late as depth. Then focus on upgrading/replacing the other line positions next year. Too much to do this year on defense, and it's a great draft for defense. Draft defense, see how things pan out on the line beyond this. Guard is the major problem.

I know I'm alone on this but I'd be open to cutting or trading Pouncey. Highly overrated player who is mostly loved by fans and been an underwhelming #15 overall pick. I don't know the specific cap ramifications but I'd look elsewhere and probably save $$$

Our best OL in recent memory had two dumpster dives in Satele and College, rookie James, new FA Albert, and a revolving door at RG. They never played together but, held up very well until Albert went down.

Something to think about.

IMO, Pouncey is a thug buddy of Aaron Hernandez and doesn't deserve to be in the NFL. Even if he's "changed his ways" he's still not worth the money he's getting!

Get a guard in free agency (priority #1), need to use those first two picks on defense.

As badly as OGs are Priority #1 for my offseason, I don't want a single draft pick spent on a G. Use FA to get us 2 solid Gs and a Swing Tackle. Spend the entire draft on Defense. Either finding starters or DE's to give us options in the next year or so behind Wake and OV, if he leaves or is tagged then not signed next year. We have too many holes on D to be spending picks on OG. And there are competent Gs on the market to shore up the OL and allow us to rebuild the future of the D.

No to Albert or James to G. Yes to trading Pouncey.

If they want a starting G out of this draft then that second round pick at #42 is the prime spot to get one. There's 3 or 4 good players that can be had in the second round at that position.

or how about to throw the ball within 1.5 seconds after the snap if those 2 starting guards end up resembling their predecessors?

Trade Pouncy ?

Good Luck with this. You are probably right & that ALL players should be tradeable depending on how well it benefits the Dolphins; but there are plenty of HOMERS on this board that will try to SMOKE :koolbang:you for even discussing the POSSIBILITY of trading Pouncey or any of the other sacrosanct sacred cows players on the team. There are reason the Dolphins haven't been relevant in the past 25 years.

Personally, I believe you acquire maximum talent wherever possible. Look the 49ers traded Joe Montana when it made sense. Same for Johnny Unitas...Just Sayin'
