Skimming an article about Gus Frerotte in todays paper, the mention of his time with the Redskins when he literally knocked himself out celebrating a rushing TD.
Maybe that's where the expression "knock yourself out" came from. :rofl3:
He started the next week with a concussion before breaking his hip.

He's been with 6 teams in the past 8 years. He started 6 games in the past 4 years......

This is the guy who is trying to be our starting QB?

I'd rather take a chance with Brock.... Heaven help us! :shakeno:

and the Gus bashing continues............:shakeno:

that happened 6 years ago! He hasn't done anything since.

and wait a second, you're criticizing his starting time, when AJ has started what, 15 games since HS?

Actually it happened 8 years ago, which further reinforces the point.

But it did seem to derail his career. He was a Pro Bowler prior to that injury. Trent Green took over after that and had a great season, which got him that fat contract in St. Louis. But the question is, would Green have taken Gus' job in '98 anyway?? Would Norv Turner have given him the opportunity?? Who knows.

It's not as bad as it sounds. He's smart, and he's well adjusted. He knows this offense very well, and if the OL can play better, he should be just fine. He can't do it all, but he's an upgrade over Feeley right now....

I watched the two throw some at mini-camp, and Gus was looking stronger than I expected. Seeing him stand in the pocket, and make good throws made me feel much better about him starting in 2005. His arm strength is still very good, and he plays with more confidence than Feeley does IMO....

A one year fix??...I'll let Gus give it a shot. He's comfortable with Linehan's system, and now he's got a chance to show what he's learned all these years while standing in the shadows. He could surprise alot of doubters in my opinion....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

If what happened 8 years ago is still affecting his career today then there is no justice.
What I saw in that same article was a guy who has had success when called upon to perform, I'm glad he's on the team and knows Scott's system.
From other articles out there he appears to be working well with AJ and I mean helping him, sounds like a good situation for all involved.
I'm looking forward to see what these two guys can do, but unless the OL plays better than last year, it's going to be a long long season.

I am not judging Gus on his past.Maybe the circumstances were not right for him. There have been late bloomers before like Rich Gannon and Matt Hasselbeck.

The guy has a good arm is football smart and knows the system.

Having said that I think he will be blitzed unmercifully because he has very little mobility.Ditto AJ.

I dont think either QB will be the long term answer for us but I am hoping at least one of them has a breakout year.

both AJ and Gus are terribly statuesque, you're right. Honestly, it's a shame that Sage isnt a better player. He has a strong arm, and has good mobility. Actually, he's a lot like Losman physically

Can't believe they still bring that up after all these years.

It's still funny. Almost as funny as Gramatica hurting himself celebrating.

Lets be real guys, Gus is not our future. If AJ does not work out this year you can pretty much bank on Saban picking up a QB from the draft next year.

its obvious to everyone that he's not the future, but he's a good QB that can fill in till 2007 when we can have a 2006 rookie step in

How many running QBs have won a SB? Brady is not exactly mister mobility I think he has done alright.

You do know Hasselbeck is not 30 yet? I would not say he was a late bloomer.

Connect on a few quick passes that go the distance & those blitzes will stop.
