1. Just because he's starting Saturday doesn't guarentee that he's starting on opening day.

and perhaps more importantly

2. With the way our oline has been, improvement over last year but not much, any qb behind them will most likely get hurt. I'm not wishing injury on any of our players, just being realistic. Then AJ, Sage, or Berlin will be starting. I think we're in for another season of musical qbs.

Well right now Gus IS the starter, no matter what day it is. A.J. Feeley has got to step up big time this week and next if he wants a chance.

The oline has actually looked alot better thank god. We only gave up one sack saturday and the QB's had alot of time to throw.

They're getting there, but they still need much improvement imo

Well unfortunately AJ is playing like he did last year. Gus is playing a little better and is most likely going to be our opening day starter. It is telling that Gus is getting this start, its basically his job to lose now. AJ has to blow Saban away in practice and in games to get the starting job. Honestly AJ is looking like he may even be 3rd string after another game or 2. He is in danger of actually being cut imo. I could see Saban going with Gus, Sage and Brock and just letting AJ go. He has no sentiment to keep him and he didnt make the trade to bring him here. If he feels AJ has no chance to develop he might just cut him.

My surprise cut in that particular thread a week or two ago is becoming less & less of a surprise. AJ is on the fringe.

I doubt we have musical QB's again, the OLINE has looked better since the first pre season game and I highly doubt they will look as bad as they did last year. Gus will be the starter IMO.

He's on the fringe of the starting job, not of being cut.

Saban pretty much said that all Gus needs to do is show some ability to lead the first team to get the job. It's a shame, cause AJ got half the playing time of the rest of the Qb's.

I've been pulling for AJ(to start) but from what I've seen and heard here I feel as of right now Gus is better prepared to start the regular season. Having said that I think with Gus's history AJ will get his chance to prove himself during the season.Let's just hope he makes the most of it.Also if this is the case it might be a blessing in disguise meaning that the o-line will have had more time to "gel" as a unit giving AJ or whomever the QB will be later in the year a little more help(not to metion RW being in the lineup after his suspension).JMO

not only is gus the starter this weekend, but he will be the starter for the regular season. and if he does well and stays healthy, feeley wont sniff the field (at least not in a fins uni). its getting very obvious that feeley will forever be a backup in this league. and not a very good one, if even sage (perrenial 3rd stringer) is creeping up on him for the #2 spot.
and this isnt my opinion. it's coming from saban himself!

Nah

I think it is fairly clear that Saban is going with Frerotte as starter.

It is Frerottes job to lose now.

Ok, let's go Frerotte. get it done.

Gus will be the starter this year, barring any injury. He had one good season with the Redskins. The improved o-line, good receiving core and upgraded running game should help Gus as a QB. If he stays healthy, expect 3500+ yards passing and 20+ TDs this season. Maybe he will surprise this year.

Anyone attending any of the 1st 3 games? I'm going to take a trip to Miami for the Carolina game for sure and I would like to see Gus starting and I'm just disappointed Ricky won't be playing. But I also have tickets to the Denver, NYJ, and NE game. No way they're taking over our stadium and I'm willing to fly from Houston just to support da' Phins. Anyone interested in the Denver ticket section 401 just PM me. Not looking for profit just don't want to eat the money i spent. Antone else going to the Panthers in particular?
