At what point does a player acknowledge that he is doing more harm than good to the team because of his play and bench himself? I think Gus should throw his pride aside and do just that because he IS the weak link on the team. I know he is hearing the critiscm, he sees the film and the players attitude toward him. STEP DOWN.

It shouldn't have to get to that point. The coach should bench any player in that situation long before the player himself realizes how badly he's hurting the team.

Heres the problem. Saban knows he is playing poorly, everyone who watches the phins play knows it and yes Gus knows it too. but who does Saban replace him with??? Sage? Sorry, I am not drinking that Koolaid, I think he would do just as poorly if not worse than gus. Big deal he has thrown 2 TD what else has he done? Lemon is not even close to ready with the offense, so guess what We are stuck with Gus.

I agree with you for the most part but you never know if Sage can do it or not. Sage may be able to do somethings and we have not given him a fair shot. We know what Gus can do but we do need to try something else and soon.

I agree, and honestly I am not opposed to giving Sage a shot. I believe that all 3 of our Qb are career backups. Like you said we do need to do something soon, unfortunately I think soon may be the offseason , and we are going to have to ride out the mediocrity storm until then.

Man it can't get any worse. I agreed with most for the longest time that Gus was the best option. But lets get real he is so bad that the only throws he can make are to hike the ball and immediately throw it to the reciever. We have absoluetly no threat of a down field passing game. Besides the fact that our running game is good our offense is worse than it was last year.

I don't think they'll throw in a unproven player against the Pats. I bet Saban wants this one bad. But if the fins don't come out on top of the next game, then the timing would be perfect to start Sage.

We really do not know what Sage can do until he actually plays in a real game, it is impossible to grade a QB in practice, in fact if teams were to only give a shot to young QBs with what they did in practice, in our division alone, there would be two QBs (that have proven to have some skills) would never have been given a shot, or taken much longer to get their shot. Brady and Pennington were not going to be allowed to start over Bledsoe and Testeverde anytime soon, and if not for injuries, we still might not have seen them play.

I do not expect Sage to start, but if Gus continues to miss big plays, or starts making bonehead mistakes, I would not be surprised if Sage was finally given a shot.

Since when is it impossible to grade a player in practice? That's what coaches do. In practice the players have to reach a minimum level of competence before they're given a shot (assuming the starter is playing badly). The coach should only make the switch if he has a reason to believe the backup may play better. That's what he's paid for, his opinion. It is not based on the fan's lament of "he can't be any worse" (which must be one of the dumbest arguments in existance). It is also not based on "somebody else did it". Unless that "somebody else" is on your team, it's irrelevant. The coaches have to assess the players on their teams and figure out who gives them the best chance to win. That's why they (coaches) are hired, for their expertise. Fans always assume they could do better, but it's not based on anything rational. They simply don't have as much information available.

This has already happened.....

I think Saban will not bench Gus until they lose 3 in a row.

So you poeple that want to keep Gus in? What makes you come to that horrible decision?

HE SUCKS.

See, Gus should be the bigger man here, same way wanny just stepped down, and renig his starting position. Go on your own terms is what i say before coach benches you.
