Gus starting QB in 06- Interesting Article

Good article. I don't think a rookie QB will come in and start...even if we could get Cutler. Gus won the final six games and while his numbers don't look great he puts us in a position to win most games. I think Saban will take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round....Jacobs, Whitehurst, or maybe Croyle.

I agree no way Saban is drafting a QB early in the draft

I think those are real good points. I don't think a team that finished the season with six straight wins should be tinkered with too much. It's fun to speculate about who might be here next year, but in the end we may do more damage by changing this team too much.

Plus, after the Cleveland game, Saban told the players he'd be using the rest of the season to evaluate players and determine who on the roster was Miami Dolphins material. When the team responds to that by winning six games straight, you'd better reward them by keeping most of them if you want your words to mean anything in the future.

IMO, winning the last 6 games in 2005 won't do anything for us in 2006 (I think I've heard some of the players say this so I'm just agreeing). We could put that same team together on the field in 2006 and lose the 1st 6 games so I see no reason to keep it together if we have an opportunity to upgrade at certain positions especially at QB.

What a terrible article.

He evidently didn't watch the Dolphins at all this year. Did they just pick someone at random to write about Miami?

Gus Frerotte can win games now. I think that this season was Gus Frerotte’s try-out to see if Gus could lead this team. A test that he had to have passed based on his play this season. Gus Frerotte is no Peyton Manning, but he threw for 2996 yards while only throwing 13 interceptions. (Less than Brady, Brees, and Delhomme)

I love it when people try to prove their point by cherry picking two decent statistics and not even mentioning the horrible ones. Completion percentage anyone? Or, even more important, YPA???

Even with decent td/int ratios, half the rating formula, the dude was one of the six worst quarterbacks in football.

This is exactly the kind of article written by media sources who don't know the Dolphins at all.

Lets not forget that with Fererotte at the helm Chris Chambers is heading to his first Pro-Bowl. The two developed a chemistry that was apparent the last half of the season when Chambers did most of his damage. What this should say is that Frerotte is a good enough quarterback to take the Fins to the Super Bowl.

More proof he doesn't know anything. Chambers started doing most of his damage because of ROSENFELS, not Gus. Sage ignited Chambers and in two of Chambers big turn-around games, it wasn't even Gus throwing the football.

To use something as "proof" that wasn't even all on Ferotte's shoulders is beyond ridiculous.

As to the "good enough quarterback to take the Fins to the Superbowl"...

Yeah, good luck with that.

one correction, gus won us 4 of 6, maybe 5 of 6. Sage won us the buffalo game, and if he had gone in earlier probably could have gotten us the KC game too. Pats game ill call it a split win.

I completely agree with the article...Defense early in the draft...and take a QB in the middle or late rounds. Frerotte is nothing special by any means. But he has the leadership and arm to win games. I would be perfectly happy starting Frerotte in 2006.

I think you mean the Jets game :hmmm:

How bout those who only point out the bad and dont look at the whole equation? take a look in the mirror. The whole team stunk in the first hald overall, and then we came together. thats it. end of discussion. You wont see 18 penalties in a game next year i can gaurrantee that.

I agree with the article for the most part, except for the fact that drafting cutler at #16 wouldnt mean he would start next year. In addition, I feel like with Saban's extensive knowledge of the upcoming draft classes, we can get defensive playmakers in the 2nd round and later, much like Roth, Crowder, and Daniels. We dont have to use our first rounder on defense. But if cutler in selected already when we're on the clock, I dont think there is any other offensive player worth selecting (you can maybe make a case for Justice), so BPA would naturally dictate looking on the other side of the ball...

Huh?

I talk about the whole package. In fact, qb ratings measure the whole package. What am I leaving out?

And what the heck does penalties have to do with anything? Are you saying that penalties are why Gus couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with barrel of footballs?

"thats it. end of discussion."

:sidelol:

Only if you discuss football at a kindergarten. Good analysis is a wee bit more complex than that.

In the last six games, the ones people always talk about as a reason to keep Gus... in the last six games Gus had THREE bad games. That is, if you're doing the math, HALF.

Gus was bad all year. You don't get to be the 28th rated qb in football by doing well.
