Gus will have a big game Sunday....

That's because Marino threw it so hard and quickly it was sometimes difficult for some Miami receivers to even catch it, much less a DB just trying to cover the WR who knows where he is going try to intercept it.

elway was like that when he couldnt practice they had recievers catching baseballs gettin shot out of those shooters so the receivers hands were still used to it

ok now that is just flat-out homer.

care to substantiate that comment? give me stats, # of tackles, INTs, SOMEthing to substantiate that outside of subjectivity...

because i disagree!

give me a group of linebackers that should be named number 1 then

both ian gold and al wilson are former pro bowlers that preform very consistently every season wilson always gets over 100 tackles

dj williams is lighting fast compared to most linebackers in the league and postest something like 117 tackles last season

and its not just me saying they are the best group i live like 3,000 miles from denver and i still hear about the broncos linebackers being the best every time some one brings up linebackers or defenses or projected number one run stoppers

You are right on one account. John Elway could throw it almost as hard as Dan Marino, with one very big exception, Elway had to put that great big "signature" stride into his throw to make it fly that fast, with Marino...it was a flick of his wrist, That was the difference. Don't get me wrong, I rate John Elway as the 3rd greatest QB of all time:

1. Dan Marino
2. Brett Favre
3. John Elway
4. Joe Montana
5. Johnny Unitas (just from what everyone says...never really saw him play except on highlight reels)...Peyton Manning will pass him if he keeps up his pace.

EDIT: Dan Marino's release time was 8-9 frames per second. NFL stars such as Joe Montana, Randall Cunningham, etc. were in the 12-14 frames per second on their release time, to compare.

good post id always admired that little flick of marinos but it was always exciting seeing elway run all over the place to get job done.

i just dont see how you have favre over elway i kinda have marino and elway tied

the funny thing is if elway wasnt so exciting to watch i might have been a dolphins fan and be on your guys side because marino was always my second favorite player

What's that got to do with anything? NOBODY threw harder than Elway, but that has nothing to do with thier INT percentages. The comment I made is responding the the missconception that Plummer is a turnover machine. He WAS a turnover machine in Arizona because he was expected to do it all without any help. In Denver his numbers have dropped to a much more respectable level. If you looked at film of last year, you'd see that of his 20 picks, 6 were actually intercepted after bouncing off the receivers hands. This preseason Jake appears to have taken the next step. He had no INT's in 35 passes and showed the ability to take a sack or throw it out of bounds under pressure. If he continues to play as he has, he'll have a big year.

Only a Fish homer would dispute that Elway had the strongest arm in the game. Everyone who saw him knows that. Marino the best of all time? No. Marino worked with a great OL, excellent targets to throw to and a great system. I don't know how many of his TD's were passes from the 1 yard line but there were a lot. Marino wasn't a threat to run either like John was. Marino would have never taken Denver to 5 Superbowls becasue he wouldn't have survived behind those small pourous O-lines Elway worked behind in the Reeves era. Dan has ZERO Superbowl championships, and more importantly, took his team there only once. Elway overcame a mediocre coach with no clue how to build a team, very average offensive talent around him, a small finesse type defense and still took his team to 5 Superbowls. Had he been given Shanahan quality coaching and talent early in his career there's no telling what he'd have done. As for Favre, Elway beat him head to head in the big one that counted, and Brett has not shown he can put a team on his back the way John did. No way he's the 2nd best ever. I've seen Unitas, Namath, Stabler, Tarkenton, Bradshaw, Dawson...everything back to '68. I rank them in the post '68 era like this:

1. Elway
2. Montana
3. Bradshaw
3. Favre
4. Marino
5. Staubach
6. Manning
7. Tarkenton
8. Fouts
9. Young
10. Aikman

Wow. I would respond to this stupidity, but I'd probably get banned again.

I accidently left Unitas off the list. I'd put him 3rd and slide everyone else down a notch.
