I didn't really even want to come on FH right now because I knew people would claim the sky is falling, and that everyone that messed up today should be cut/pulled out of starting. Okay. It's one game, and the 1st game of the season at that. We weren't ready. Atlanta was. Simple as that.

The positives?

-We CAN drive down the field, we can. That's not a problem.

-Sean Smith I think played alright. It's not everyday a rookie corner is asked to step in a cover Roddy White, and he did it pretty well today I think.

-Our run defense, did AWESOME. We shut down Michael Turner.. MICHAEL TURNER! That dude is a pure beast, and that was our biggest scare going into this game. I don't believe our run D will be an issue this year. We stopped the guy that is the best at wearing your D down and breaking every tackle.

-Davone Bess, how many times did he save our *** today?

-Greg Camarillo also saved us. He came up big on Penny's int by chasing the Williams down and making him fumble. That's not the first time he's done that.

-Brian Hartline .. also saved us numerous times, especially on that 4th down.

-Ricky Williams, he ran very, very hard today.

-HOW ABOUT PHILLIP MERLING? Dude played lights out today man! He was everywhere.

Negatives..

-Our O-line, played awful, simple as that.

-Coverage.. there wasn't any. Hopefully we gel like we did last season toward around the midpoint.

-TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS. That was the BIG reason we lost. Pennington ****ed up today, but everyone has a bad day. Fasano screwed up as well, but we know these two do not play like we saw today, they had bad days. Trust me, if these turnovers didn't happen, we're probably discussing our win right now.

The reality is, we had a bad debut. It happens. Do we ever start strong..? No, it'd be nice. But it's been proven that bad starts don't always mean bad finishes. Look, when something is an issue, Sparano fixes it. Tackling was an issue going into this game, we fixed it, and stopped the best RAC back in the game today. I guarantee Sparano is going to drill it into these heads that we can NOT turn the ball over, and we'll play a cleaner game next week.

Let's keep our cool, stop the "cut so and so" threads, and just sit back in reality. We're going to be fine guys. Give props to Atlanta for playing a good game, they deserve it.

good post man....but it's almost not worth posting in this ****-storm....sanity gets lost among the golfball-sized hail stones of lunacy.

Not all of us are saying cut this guy, cut that guy. Ill leave that to the guys who really dont have a deep understanding of the game. But Ive pointed out numerous things that I see that concern me, and Ive yet to really see any intelligent points made to the counter.

- an average at best wr core
- an O Line that still cant run with power and move people off the ballsay it will.

is it not a contradiction in terms to be a ball control offense, but have to rely on trickery to run the ball? ball control means power running, at least ithink it does. and the Phins cant do it. Chad Henne changes nothing in that regard. Yes, teams will respect Ginn deep a bit more, but outside of that, its not going to have the huge impact some try and say it will.

Have to take the positives out of the game.

Ricky Williams played awesome and Phillip Merling played extremely well too.

 Probably true. Maybe I'll get a few back though. At one point in the game, I just really accepted the fact that we were probably going to lose, so I decided to just pay attention the positives of the game. Some guys really stepped up for us when we needed it. Our D is looking good too. You can't ask for a much better performance when the offense is going 3 and out constantly, and our D is being asked to stop that Atlanta offense time after time.

Yup, you're right. I really don't know what it takes for us to get the run game going. We have a very strong o-line when you look at it on paper, but when the game gets going things have just seemed to fall apart. I'm not writing it off yet though, this is their first time in regular season working together.

Also, I think our receiving core is decent. But we've just got too many possession receivers, our only game changing threat really is Ginn. I really wish we had someone of Andre Johnson's type of ability right now now.

Good post. There were a lot of positives in today's game. Our defense looked much better than I expected against the Falcons...expecially against the run.

All those you said that our run defense would suck without Roth....STFU!!!

Our running game was actually pretty good today. Better than I anticipated based on the preaseason.

Long...don't expect the questions on him to stop anytime soon. He played mediocre in preseason and has carried that into the regular season...

Turnovers....fricken killed us.

Those points really can't be countered.

I think the receivers are good enough but they're just not getting open. I've been with the #1 receiver crowd for a long time now. We absolutely need a big-bodied dude who can just grab the ball when it's in his vicinity. Ginn will never ever thrive facing #1 corners and double-teams. Can the team win with an average WR corps? Yes. But it would be winning in spite of it.

Who knows what's going on with the O-line. Are the players just not that good or do they need more time to gel? Is it the blocking scheme? Coaching? Seems like everything about this offense from Penny's performances to the running game to Wildcat, etc. will go as the O-line goes.

I was very encouraged by our run defense; I was generally encouraged by Ronnie/Ricky, and Merling was a man possessed today. Hard to take a lot of positives away from this game, but by no means is this prognosticative of things to come, we'll adjust, hopefully take a step back from the trickery and try to form a strong offensive identity that incorporates misdirections and all the fun stuff rather than rely upon it.

Sky isn't falling......I knew Atlanta was going to beat Miami....

ZachThomas76 said it best....this type of reaction is what happens when people can't objectively look at the team, and don't have an understanding of the game of football.....and they set their expectations too high...

Miami isn't a playoff caliber team....they're a 9-7 caliber team...

But they'll have to play a helluva lot better than they did today on offense to achieve that...

We actually had a much better running game than I expected. We ran for 4.4 yards per carry. That is pretty damn good. We only had 96 yards rushing, but that is more because we couldn't stay on the damn field due to turnovers, than because we couldn't actually rush the ball...

I said it in my post i am not all doom and gloom and I was very impressed with our run D...but the offense particularly the o-line was horrendous

Huh, I didn't know that. That was mainly Ricky though I'd imagine, for some reason Ronnie just couldn't get it going. But then again they barely gave him the ball.. he's not a guy that is going to light it up within his first 7-8 touches.

Scary thing for me is, I think the Phins can play better and still start 0-3. i will never agree with any poster on here who thinks our wr core is good. Its not. All due respect to Camarillo, but when he is your starting wr, thats pathetic. Some want to say sked plays no bearing on things. Again, I will never agree with that. I think this team is lucky to win 9 games this year given their opponents. I hope Im wrong, but dont think i am. This team isnt on the level of a Pitt, Tenn, Balt, SD, or even a healthy NE team IMO.
