Rex Hadnot Center Houston
Year: Sr Height: 6-1 Weight: 310 40: 5.25 Hometown: Lufkin, TX
Positives: Rex is a powerful center. He has good structure and balance. He uses his hands well and his weight to over power his defender. Could also play guard. Is versatile. Really good in helping the run.

Negatives: Rex does not have good speed. Most of the time he has to rely on power and push, and after that he doesn't have the speed to go down field and continue with a block. Is still very raw. Needs to find a way to produce better agility to be more effective and a complete OL in the league.

Bottom Line: Rex is in a bundle of centers that could be taken anywhere from mid to late in the draft.

Tony Pape Tackle Michigan
Year: Sr Height: 6-5 Weight: 314 40: 5.26 Hometown: Clarendon Hills, IL
Positives: Pape plays very tough and aggressive. Has great strength and nice solid size. Very strong in his legs and uses his power to his advantage. Completes his blocks and does not let up until the whistle has blown. Has a lot of experience and is a very dependable player. Solid on both run and pass support.

Negatives: Not real athletic. Tends to get sloppy at times. Questionable if he can hold up for an entire game. Needs to stay focused. Might end up playing guard instead of tackle in the NFL.

Bottom Line: Pape has a lot of tools NFL scouts want. He will likely play right tackle or one of the guard spots in the NFL. Pape will likely go in the 2nd round. He needs to have good workout numbers, and could slip a little because teams may hesitate as to where he will play in the NFL.

Derrick Pope Outside Linebacker Alabama
Year: Sr Height: 5-11 Weight: 222 40: 4.51 Hometown: Galveston, TX
Positives: Athletic linebacker with a lot of upside. Has good hand use to fight off blockers, and the acceleration and speed to chase down running backs. Has the athleticism to cover backs, tight ends, and wide receivers. Is a solid blitzer when asked to. Finds the gaps and shoots through them with his quickness. Has played both strong side and middle linebacker during his career. Has great instincts for finding the ball carrier, and is an explosive tackler.

Negatives: With his size he'll only be able to play the weak side in the NFL. He's not tall enough to be covering 6-5 tight ends and not strong enough to play the middle, which are the two positions he's accustomed to playing in college. While he's a hard hitter, he sometimes fails to wrap the ball carrier up and take him down.

Bottom Line: Pope was a junior college transfer in 2002 and was considered one of the best JC linebackers in the nation. He had 252 tackles and 26 sacks in 2 years of junior college. Spent last year splitting time in the middle with Freddie Roach, and replaced an ailing Brooks Daniels in the starting lineup this year and is having a spectacular senior year. If he plays like this the rest of the year and has good workouts, he could rise as high as the 2nd round.

With our new additions I see speed and hard hitting. Great on special teams. I am looking for an improvement. Also with most of these guys (Bua, Poole, Pope, Jenkins, Moore, Bell) we have good kick off coverage and nice upside to see if any can eventually take over starting at LB and S. Love these second day picks.
