My colleague J.D. Robinson wrote a fairly scathing column about Derek Hagan:

I tend to agree with his analysis, but how do you all feel?
I feel Hagan has the speed and can run great routes but has no mental game. I hear he is not focused on football. That will change with Parcells!!
Were weak at WR. I say keep him one more season. Watch Ginn and Booker this season!!
Also happy about the Smiley deal. Upgrade!!

I hated Hagan since day 1. I dont think the guy is fast at all... in fact, i find he just looks very awkward out there. He runs good routes but what good is that when you can't catch a ball. I'd give him one more year then cut him if he doesn't show up.

Pretty much sums up the situation with Hagan. It's a shame, too. I thought he was supposed to be a really reliable pass-catcher in college, and a consistant TD maker? Something happened to him between college and the Combine, and he hasn't been the same since.

This guys college years went straight to his head. He thought he would bring what he had in college to the NFL, but couldn't. But instead of realizing he sucks he was too busy show boating his new money. I think he is a typical punk who has potential but is too ****y for his own good. With that said, I think our coaching staff can put him in place and we should keep him another year. I'd like to see us bring in a bunch of small named WR to compete for the 4th and 5th spots. I think Ginn, hopefully the Wilford rumor is true, then pick up a guy in the draft (or a solid TE).

I think by default Greg Camarillo gets a spot for saving this franchise from having a goose egg in the win column for a season. That stat would of been mentioned over and over for the next 100 years. Most of these bum reporters already dog the Dolphins to no end.

Hasnt has never shown he can be a threat or a consistent reciever. IMO he is another Saban bust. His routes are good and he has decently mediocre speed but what good is that when he cant catch anything

crackin' me up..."If the Dolphins could get anything for Hagan -- a sixth-round pick, a conditional pick, a guitar pick -- they should pull the trigger without any second thoughts. "

Jason Allen was a bust, Ronnie Brown a bust etc etc they were 1st round picks that finally showed up give Hagan a little rope he was a 3rd rounder and really in my opinion the real busts we have had at the Dolphins for awhile has been the coaches. Too many of our old players are playing well on other teams which proves the point!

The biggest problem Hagan has had is NO quarterback to throw the ball to him and on the few occasions where the QB played well, we didn't have an OL to go with it...We tend to look at a players stats and say, well he didn't get it done or he doesn't have it, but what about the complete dearth of talent this team has been dealing with for 4 seasons...lets get an OL and QB and then we can really evaluate our WRs better...it was the same with Chambers...and Booker...

I'm not saying that Hagan is a bona fide lock at WR, but we have so many other holes, that arguing about Hagan when we can't really objectively evaluate him is an exercise in futility....

i am gonna reserve judgement until we have at least a mediocre QB.

I just don't agree with the Qb thing. I watched this guy and he drops everything period!! But your right we do have other problems to think about.
Parcells will fix it or see ya and back to phoenix!

I disagree, Hagans issues have nothing to do with the QB. Hagans issues are when the QB does get him the ball, he drops it. The drops have everything to do with Hagan and nothing to do with the QB. Once the QB gets him the ball, it is all on Hagan to catch it, which he does not do well.

agreed. but i am talking like when dan would scream at guys when they didn't catch the ball - do you think his hands would still suck in that case? when you have a stud QB you don't want to disappoint. when it is a shaky QB it is a different story.

If your talking from a motivational standpoint, then yes, the QB should get on his WR's *** when they drop balls to push the WR to do better. But in the end its the WR's job to catch the ball... But I agree with you that the QB should get on his WR *** when drops happen and not just sit there and clap when a bad play happens like everyone on this team has been doing... Especially Chambers, who would either make a throw the flag signal, or clap after he would drop the ball...
