Hair today ... gone tomorrow.

They cut their dreads cuz of Jose Reyes.

Long ago when I played high school football at Central I had long hair. Believe me it was a pain in the azz especially in the hot rainy days of summer practice. Maybe the dreads are earlier to deal with than long straight white dude hair but it's got too be rough when they get wet or in the snow.
Samson lost his hair and it was his demise so we shall see. It's a fun story and they may get into it on hard knocks.

Now Marley could rock the dreads. :420:

Football is just a game, period.

I don't want to get all philosophical on a Dolphins site  but... is is just a game therefore a persons beliefs or religion could rightfully be put in front of this game(coming from a non-religious person) and if they did see football as a small part of their lives I wouldn't look at them any differently. Actually, it would show they have actual character and not just a player in a helmet. Ricky Williams wasn't all that interesting- until we found out that his persona had some depth to it. You can't categorize the majority of guys with dreads as just doing it to "attract ladies" because you don't know all of their personal reasons for it. With that being said, the ones that do should shave it just for the mere fact of aerodynamic advantages and some other reasons listed earlier like weight issues etc etc.. just my 2 cents

Of course your right of religous expression comes before football and I get give Ricky his respect for doing his thing but you can not tell me most of these dude are devote rastafarians. It looks cool. Ricky with dreads and a black visor running for 200 yards in the snow in Buffalo is how i'll always picture him. No problem with self expression but as you say the aerodynamic advantages should improve performance.

I know I'm just nit-picking here, but I'm pretty sure Ricky wore a reflective, mirror-like visor in 02 when he tore it up... In 03 he wore the dark visor.

Either way looked pretty sweet, especially with the dreads.

We don't know their reasons, but eh it is what it is. Ricky did look Boss in 02 :brewskis:

In all honestly he could have been rocking a joe dirt toupee for all I care and he'd still be a beast that year

I am glad they cut the dreads. With the long hair, they appeared undisciplined. It is a perception thing.
Sometimes changes like that help the players game. I am hoping it will.

I like the team unity that this brings. We all roll together the same way. I think that is the bigger picture in this story.

Wow they all look so much different! I like how dreads look usually, but hopefully this can give them an advantage at least. Smith & Carroll both look bigger imo

****, back in my playing days (just after dinosaurs went extinct) ... If we saw a ballcarrier with his ****ing hair hanging out of his helmet - we'd snatch that simple bastard baldheaded.

I'm glad they removed the extra handle.

two words that prove long hair is not a hinderance....

but what do I know...I'm bald...

I never could understand why players that are looking for every advantage would play with long hair. Imagine playing in the rain or snow how much extra wieght your carrying. Not to mention giving your opponents something to grab on to.
Ricky's dreads with the black visor were badazz but football should not be a fashion statement. Just my opinion.

I don't have to imagine this because I've played in the rain with long hair many times. Unless you are an ultra-weakling, playing in the rain shouldn't effect your play either way. I don't think playing with long hair effects Larry Fitzgerald, Clay Matthews or Troy Polamalu...or does it? Are you saying they could be that much better if they weren't carrying all that extra weight about their respective necks?

A prime example is Dennis Rodman ... a defensive player who has more recognition & celebrity/earnings power than most sports stars. Even has his own name, "The Freak". Another good example is ocho-cinco.

Rodman was 'The Worm'

Good point. The advantage may be small but not having hair to grab on to is an advantage. The players seemed to think cutting it helped according to the article.

Even if the advantage is only psychological then it can indeed help. Time will tell.
