Dolphins are 4-4, and I can't complain on the way we have played. We could be 6-2 or 2-6 based on close games. We are what we are, and so far an average team looking to sneak in as a WC in the playoffs. IF, by some Divine revelation, this coaching staff can get these players to play to their ability, we will be in the playoffs. IF not, we go 8-8 and everyone is "kiss your sister" bored as hell and/or pissed.

Here's how PFF has the team ranked and graded:

Offense

Overall- #13, with a grade of +14.9. Misleading in some players playing well but, very inconsistent.

Passing- #10, with a grade of 17.3. See above.

Run- #13, with a grade of 2.9. Not running well for the year but, few are, as we see by the grade.

Pass Block- #16, with a grade of -2.4. Average at best but, better of late.

Run Block- #19, with a grade of -18.8. We have been bad but, 13 teams are worse. Who wants to run block in today's NFL?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Defense

Overall- #3, with a grade of 55.7. Misleading with some great play and some very poor play.

Cover- #9, with a grade of 3.3. Cover has been surprisingly good other than Jones and Wheeler.

Run- #18, with a grade of 6.0. DL is VG but, missed tackles by LB's have hurt us.

Rush- #2, with a grade of 35.0. The DL is bringing it. A healthy Wake and Jordan on the field, we are #1.

Special Teams

We are #31, with a grade of -11.4. This is a HUGE disappointment, other than Fields.

Biggest change the past few weeks has been the oline, able to run the ball and improved pass blocking. On D I have to say I'm a bit disappointed overall, too many players have had career days against us, we are nowhere near top 5 which is what many expected/hoped.

IF not, we go 8-8 and everyone is "kiss your sister" bored as hell and/or pissed.

As disappointing as it would be, 8-8 would actually be an improvement on the previous 4 years.
And then the Ireland supporters can point to that and say, "See? He made us better." The rest of us will tilt our heads and cast upon them a quizzical stare...

...like that.

Better then i thought we would be after 8 games..............

Thanks for the info SB2.

One thing I've posted on here before is a saying... "stats are to coaching as a lamp post is to a drunk"... it's something to prop you up, but it doesn't tell the whole story... i.e is it a drunk, or someone just about to bend over to get a pebble out of their shoe.

Anyway.

What I find interesting about these stats are;

Offensively,

It appears from PFF stats if we are middle of the pack or just slightly above. Which by our record alone.. would appear to agree with that. From a more traditional stats approach via NFL stats, we are

1. 11th in yards per game
2. 14th in points per game
3. 11th in 3rd down %

Defensively

It appears from PFF stats that with the exception of a 18th Run Grade... that we are, by average of the 3 stats listed, a top 5 defence. So from an NFL stats standpoint we are

1. Total Yards/game - we are 22nd
2. Points per game - we are 14th
3. 3rd down % - we are 11th

One thing that you'd listed as 'strong' [my words] was a PFF grade for RUSH as no2 and you'd mentioned that "The DL is bringing it" I couldn't disagree more. We are leaking like the Titantic. All you have to look at, dare I say it... from a stats standpoint... our top tackler on the DL is... NINTH!!!!!! This would be bad for a 30 front D, but for a 40 front Defense, this is just simply inexcusable. It's worse than bad - it's loosing record bad. Ok, got carried away there a wee bit. :) But it's very bad!

Overall

This is the thing with stats are, they can be misleading;

Defensively - things can go wrong with 10 players and 1 player saves the day, a la Cameron Wake and the Safety - as on that same play, the secondary, and in particular the Safeties seemed confused as Clemons and Jones were at odds with each other. But the key thing with this one... on a side note... Clemons was right and took control as was evidenced by Jones reaction as he got in place and disgruntedly [sic] waved off Clemons.

We seem in great shape by PFF but actually.. the Eye Ball test shows that we're not playing very well, nor do we really have an identity [my view]

Offensively
We appear in the middle of the pack, because largely, stats no matter how we look at it, are probably going to be the same because it takes most all 11 players to be on the same page each play for success, and our record speaks to a middle of the pack situation.

Oh, yeah. More PFF crap considered reality...

Pat, Mostly agree. Do you understand the the D rush is the pass rush, and not running which was separate?

Curious as to your view on the Go Go snap counts?

Ahhh... Pass Rush... right, I get it. My bad.

Go / Go Go? Jeez... don't start me on that one!!! One of the most idiotic things I've come across in my 31 years of watching the NFL, my 15+ plus years of playing and 6 years of being an OC.

If I were to see this tendency at my level of the sport [i.e. British Football League - even though I'm Irish :)] I would say one very simply thing.... 'BAD COACHING'. It's beyond rediculous. And the fact that it has continued all this year is an embarrassment. Harsh to say, I know, but it's just that ridiculous.

Right, I've said enough on that one...

Oh yeah, another earth-shattering, brilliant post from you.

Maybe someday you will have one, but I doubt it...

Halfway grades?
Half-wit coaching
Half-azzed performance to end games.
haha

The sky is falling, yet we're .500 with wins over Indy and cinn, I'm not sure it's fair to ask for more from what's really a bubble team.

I thought as much on the "rush" when I read your post. I should have clarified. I disagree on the Go Go but, after a lengthly debate, will PM on that one.

SLAINTE!
