How do they decide who plays in the Hall of Fame game?

It's just a league thing, just like the game in Japan.

They probably decide which fan base would over react the most if their team lost, then pick one team from the NFC and one from the AFC...

Actually I think they look at teams that had historically significant games and try to match them up... this year they were going for a 20 year later replay of the '85 MNF game.

I think they alternate among all the teams, we last played in the game in '02 so we should be playing again in another 3-4 years.

The only time I went to the Hall of Fame Game was when Philadelphia and the NY Jets played. I clearly remember shaking hands with Randall Cunningham and Al Toon as they walked from the lockerroom to the field. I must've been around 9, 10.

That was 1992, we thrashed the Eagles and that was the start to a 5-0 preseason- we then went 4-12 in the reg season Even worse than that was losing Dennis Byrd & al Toon to career ending injuries. The positive was that Dennis was paralyzed but eventually was able to walk again.
