He was defintely one of the more colorful coaches in the NFL during his time..great person and a classy guy. Even I was pulling for him during that SB. It was still a matter of the AFC getting some respect at that time. His teams, the Jets, Phins and Steelers made it clear during the late 60's and 70's that a new league had moved into the NFL and could play.
