Really, when was the last time we had a game plan that out smarted the other team? When was the last time our coaching staff did something the other team had no answer for? Yup. The wild cat. New England had no answer for it and we beat the crap out of them. Yes I know TS didn't invent the wild cat but he knew he needed to do something different and he did it. I'm not saying he was amazing but since Shula was the coach we've had bobody that has made a real positive impact on our team. JJ builded us a very good defense vut other than that nothing. Just pathetic.

Ozzy rules

Hate to say it, but we would have been better off today if we just had kept him as HC over hiring Philbin... At least his team's had a semblance of an identity...

Philbin just transformed this franchise into wussball trash. Sparano's may have sucked but at the very least they were still built around a more tough minded philosophy predicated around a power running game.

Disagree.
Sparano gave us zero intellectual edge.

His plans were simple.
Sadly the last coach that gave us an edge was Shula.

Those fist pumps look pretty darn good these days....:sidelol:

Sparano did have one good season, but he blew his wad. The 2009 team disappointed, the 2010 team was embarrassing down the stretch (remember the Lions game at home) and the 2011 team didn't win a game until November.

Philbin was a bad hire and the team he assembled is a joke. Doesn't change the fact that the team was going nowhere with Sparano either. Both of those jokers coached one year too long and it resulted in two wasted seasons.

With Sparano I at least felt like we could compete in our own division. Now I feel sick every time I know we have to compete with the Jets, Bills or Pats...we are significantly weaker than all of our division foes.

The last coach to give us an edge? It was Bill Parcells, and he wasn't even the head coach. But he knew how to play match ups and would at least try to exploit other teams' weaknesses.

We've played not to lose since Shula left. We rarely ever try to destroy a team. Play good enough to not lose. Well now we have a laughable defense and an offense that excels at setting up 3rd and longs

Sparano didn't do anything with this team. A fluke division title because Brady gets hurt. Jack**** after.

No coach worth a damn has been here since Shula.

Sparano was a joke. Good man but completely over his head.
No intellectual advantage.
We never even had any time outs by the end of the half because the team was always confused.

His teams played hard which gave some measure of respectability.
But once people figured out the wildcat he had nothing.

I've always hated the hiring of Philbin. Sparano's team lacked quality offensive playmakers, and Ireland was unwilling and/or unable to find them. Marshall was a headcase who dropped too many TDs and Hartline scared no one. Where was the big seam-threat TE? The defense kept them in most games, but the lack of playmakers (and TDs) on offense is why they lost too many games.

Enter Philbin. He allowed Coyle to change the defense, brought in an ineffective offense, and proceeded to get rid of any player who was vocal or he was unable to control. He filled the team with "his" guys. That defense he inherited from Sparano (Top 5 against the run) now can't stop anyone. On offense he now has better playmakers than Sparano did, but had no clue how to use them.

Now look at today's Dolphins. Sparano's team at their worst were never this bad. The personnel choices made by Ross have completely ruined this team; he'd better get it right for next year.

I'm not saying that Sparano was the answer, but he was a lot better than Philbin!

Man, aside from the influence of Bill Parcells and having Chad Pennington at QB, I cannot distinguish a difference between the ineptitude that was Tony Sparano and Dan Henning and that of Joe Philbin and Bill Lazor. We have been complaining about poor o-line going all the way back to Tony's first season.

My god thats so true. Is it just extraordinary bad coaching or bad players? Why cant we just have a decent Oline? Just decent? I mean, seems like the Pats always do and you can put "Joe the rag man" at any position and they always play decent. Why cant we?

And what I wouldnt give to have Chad Pennigton back....he was the real deal.

Weve had to deal with clabo, columbo, jon martin, dallas thomas and i cant even remember who else but they all suck...the line has been **** for years
