Hartline had an appendectomy

Jesus, its just an appendix ... I used to root for you & you never did much. Now you wanna be secretive like the CIA & Tuna while being an ave. WR ... go do it for some other team. Don't need the drama & the ONE TD!! Sheesh!!

Be honest with the fans, especially if you're not doing so good ... you'd think most Dolphins could have learned THAT LESSON the last few years.

He doesn't have to tell us a damn thing, TBH. Hartline probably didn't want to say anything about it initially just so people (fans and media) wouldn't make such a big deal about it. I really don't get why some people are making such a huge issue about him keeping it a secret.

Exactly! Why should Hartline come out and make an announcement about the surgery he was having? There is no rule that says he must make a minor surgery public knowledge and there is no injury report that Philbin has to release during the offseason programs. They said he was dealing with a medical issue and really that is all they need to say. I know as a fan we always want to know what is going on, I really wanted to know what was up with him. But to bash him for not making an announcement for his appendectomy is ridiculous. In this case it was up to him how much he wanted to share.

Let's all just be glad that he is OK and ready to go for training camp. As fans, that is all that should matter to us.

Dude, come down to Warner Robins. We've got plenty of Dolphin fans here.

I used to watch the games at Jock & Jill's just off I - 75 but a bud gets the NFL package and has a Sony 52 in ( and a pool ) so I've been going there.

Who broadcast our games in W.R.?

This. With enough scrutiny on him being a pro athlete, perhaps he was hoping for some private time to recover without endless questions, interviews etc. it's not as though us fans really have to know that he had a minor surgery that is not football related.

I am no expert, but have had this operation. The area of the incision was tender for years, not months or even weeks. I hope today's medicine will prevent him from having tenderness in the abdomen and cause him to shy away from contact.
I know when I had my operation, (30 years ago) there would have been no way I was ready for football as quick as it looks like Hartline will.
He still will want to protect the area. Its human nature.

While there is most certainly no rule requiring him to make a announcement you would think since he took the time to tweet pics of his get well balloons he could have said just appendicitis no big deal. Seems like the reasonable, mature, professional thing to do, rather then feed speculation.

Perhaps he had complications with his appendix and didn't know it wasn't going to be no big deal. Or perhaps he didn't originally know he was having problems with his appendix and thought it was a far more serious medical issue. I don't think it is as cut and dry that he had pains, got a diagnosis and had it removed. Seemed to be a little more involved and perhaps he wanted it to play out before making a comment about it. Now that it was all taken care of and he is going to be OK, he is speaking about it.

Seriously? What gives any of us the right to know about a medical procedure that has nothing to do with football in the off-season? Hartline wasn't making any drama out of this - it's everyone else that is.

Of course everyone has the right to do what they want. I'm just pointing out that its NOT smart & not good PR ... if you don't get that you missed the banana boat.

Hartline has several years & ONE TD ... count 'em ... I believe he needs the PR & good will ... just my opinion. Why do I need a secretive 1-TD turd around?????????

Case in point ... we have a turd-knocker Team. ........

We used to have a turd-knocker secretive team up until last year & everyone was up in arms & ready to revolt.

Now ... we have the SAME turd-knocker Team with the SAME over/under 7.5 ... BUT with better PR & OPEN Dialog ... the gullible fans are sopping the drivel up & acting like something has changed, even believe there was an "alleged good draft" although the luster is already coming off that. Hope Philben can turn that around or OMG!!!

Anywho ... just saying ... secretive crap for no reason doesn't get you very far even though its your right. Seriously!!

P.S. Many backed Tuna & all that secretive crap & look what it led too. No one wants to spill the beans, but lets not be silly ... lets garner some good will & embrace the fans!!

Its absolutely none of your business and you have no right to say otherwise JerryD. A person's privacy is a person's privacy. Hartline is a very dedicated football player who doesn't cause any issue, makes tremendous acrobatic catches, and just shows up without a peep. You are not owed an explanation for his medical concerns.

Especially non football related medical issues. If he or the team was hiding a hamstring injury or a torn ACL that is a different story.

:rolleyes2: Hartline didn't owe YOU or any of us an explanation right away. If it was during the season, then maybe, but it was 2-3 months prior to the season and he got it taken care of right away. So I still don't get why you're making such a big deal out of it. To me it seems like you are more intent on bagging him for his production more than anything else.

Oh, and I bet if he would've said something about it right away, he would've been criticized for being a distraction to the team or hogging the attention!

You can add one more Macon fin fan.
Where do you watch the games?

With all respect - I think you're the one missing the point. It doesn't matter if he's our number #1 player, All-Pro or if he's the last man on the roster who's been a draft bust and only gets on the field playing special teams. He has the right to some privacy with non-football medical matters, especially during the off-season.

Everything else you said in your post (I highlighted in blue) regarding his production last year your current evaluation of the team, the team's previous method of not giving out information, your assessment of everyone being gullible now, etc. has nothing to do with Hartline not making a big deal about his procedure.

In fact, you are basically arguing against yourself. On one hand, you criticize the old regime for being secretive. Then you criticize the more open approach: "BUT with better PR & OPEN Dialog ... the gullible fans are sopping the drivel up & acting like something has changed". So which approach do you want? Why are you so angry? I've been a Dolphin fan since 1972 and I'm not happy about a lot of the things that have happened but IMO you are reading WAY too much into this situation.
