Why is everyone talking so much about Turner dropping the ball. He outplayed Hartline in the first 2 games with 3 receptions in each, while Hartline had 1 catch in each and he had more dropped passes. Hartline started the 3rd game and was targeted 8 times and caught 3 while Turner was targeted once and Henne's throw was way off. Turner basically leads the team in receptions with basically only 2 preseason games. Look up the stats! I think if Turner was given the same oportunity as Hartline in the last game he would have played as well or better. Ginn and Bess are our best receivers and Cam is a close 3rd. Turner and Hartline should be very good helping our starters in certain situations.

Hartline also has only 5 catches. Not exactly lighting it up...

He does show promise, but I'm not sold on him...

From what I have read they like Hartlines ability to make yards after the catch and maybe to a lesser extent get open. I guess you have to look at it as a trade off. Think about it this way, Terrell Owens was tops in the league for so many years in drops but still was considered one of the top 3-4 WR's.

I do think your observation is worthwhile though, although I think it's Bess who will be competing for the spot not Turner, and I think Bess has the best hands on the team and from what I have heard has the best WR instincts out of the whole lot of them. If I were a betting man I would bet (at this point given the information we have) Hartline gets the start but is on a short leash...one or two drops could end his run.

I would also like to see more of this "WR competition" involve Ginn. I still don't get that we have three WR's that all look very good and two have proven themselves (more than any of the other WR's) being Cam and Bess, fighting over one spot while Ginn in all honesty is a threat nonfactor (and save the he gets doubled defense because that is seldom the case).

I predict, boldly I might add, at one point our starting WR's this year will be Hartline replacing Ginn and Bess as the #2.

You think this decision was made on stats? Its clear to everyone how much further along Hartline is. The kind of "stats" that Sparano uses to make his decisions most of us count comprehend.

These guys have made 100's of receptions in reception, 1 or 2 in a game isn't changing anyone's opinion.

I'm not really comparing Turner to Hartline...but looking at Hartline on his own merits. I would agree that Hartline is clearly beating out Turner. My point is that even if he is...he may not give us much this year.

If Hartline stays at the #2 he'll catch just about as many balls as everyone else, right around 50.

Ahhhhh but how many yards does he have on those catches? So far (when he's not getting mugged) he's able to get separation (as he showed against TB) and get chunks of yardage. He's dropped a few balls that should have been caught, but also some that were difficult to catch. Can't base his production on the fact that he "has only 5 catches". It's preseason and the Fins are trying to see what they have at receiver. So naturally they are going to spread it around and not go to one guy repetitively.

I'm concerned about those drops of Hartline's, absolutely. He needs to clean those up if he expects to play a lot. The biggest concern is Hartline short-armed those balls from Pennington and Henne. Some of Turner's drops were with Pat White throwing a left-handed ball. You may not think that's a big deal but if you don't think it's different, then you've never played receiver, coached receivers, or talked to receivers about it. It takes some getting used to. Recently Greg Camarillo said catching a left-handed ball is as odd as driving on the wrong side of the road in England.

From what I remember Sparano spoke about consistency. Hartline hasn't been necessarily amazing.. but is middle of the road production is at least consistent.. so it gives the coaches a better feel of what they are going to get day in and day out.

Instead of Turner being hot one day, and cold the next.

Hartline is one of the few recievers that we have that is getting any type of seperation. I know you say he has had some drops, but I'm sure that if you go back through and watch the games, the drops he's credited with arn't easy catches. I've watched every game and he has yet to drop a bunny.

Hartline has also drawn a number of penalties by just beating the guy infront of him. That is HUGE when it comes to a reciever. Its either illegal contact which is a 1st down and 5 yards. Or PI which is a 1st down and up to a ton of yards.

Hartline has had some great blocking down the field. He sprung Ronnie for his TD reception, which a vet type of pick play. He's not afraid to go over the middle and take a shot, still hanging onto the ball.

Hartline is going to be the #2 this year. Bess is better in the slot.

Sorry, but I'm not sold on ANY of the rookie receivers...and why should I be!

How many times have I read that it takes three years for a receiver to blossom...now we fully expect a rookie to come in and play like he's a world beater...come on.

If a rookie can come in and out play the other receivers we already had on the team...what does that say about the other receivers?

Just goes to show that we shouldn't put too much stock into what's going on during the preseason. We'll get a better idea where we're at once the season starts. Some analysts are saying other teams should watch who we're cutting at receiver, while some here say that we are deficient. Let's all sit back and watch what transpires...hopefully it will all work out

I like what I have seen from both, is there room for improvment? Absolutely, but both are rookies that can take Miami's passing up another level.

I still do expect to see Turner at the very least make big plays once Miami gets in the redzone, and Hartine have 1 big play (25 yards or more) each game, but very excited on the type of receivers both can become.

how many times has the notion been shot down that it takes three years for a WR? there's no rule to determine how long it takes.

you can see the glass half empty, of half full. we know what Bess and Camarillo can do. if Hartline really outplays them (not saying he already did), you know you're looking at a 50+ catch guy right away.

Are people really that concerned about Hartline having more drops than Turner???

He has played more than Turner.....do the math.
