Rookie Brian Hartline can lock up the Dolphins' No. 2 receiver job with a strong preseason finale, according to the Miami Herald.

Davone Bess will need to pull a rabbit out of his hat to pass Hartline at this point. The rookie leads Fins wideouts in preseason yards per catch (21.4).

Bess is the better receiver, anyone can see that whther they are a Dolphin fan or NFL scout. Bess won't be the #2 simply because of his specific size and skill set. He's best suited for the #3 role in the slot.

Bess has also dropped his share of passes this pre-season and has not looked as sharp as he did last season

phew, as usual, rotoworld has it all figured out....

Hartline ALLOWS us to move Bess back to the slot. he's way more useful there.

Whoever wrote that article obviously is not much of a dolphins fan and was not watching last season. What a ridiculous statement.

Bess is way too slow to play on the flanker to the outside. Bess can only play in the slot where his shiftiness works well. But Bess lacks speed.

Hartline played track and had the fastest 60 yard shuttle at the combine. He had the 2nd fastest 3 cone drill at the combine. And ran under 4.5 at his pro day.

Hartline is much better suited to play #2 on the outside when you add his better speed along with his height/size.

Fastest 60 yd shuttle? impressive. Our preseason game against the Bucs I was susprised to see him haul in that bomb from Penny. He seemed to get the separation that I don't see from Ginn often.

Nice to hear. This guy is really growing on me. But just as each week passes.. everytime we get excited about a player they always flame out the next game. here's to hoping we have something to smile about Thursday night.

Hartline has had a good preseason, but Bess has a complete season under his belt. Let Hartline prove it in a real game before he is crowned.

I agree with GB Hartline just has more physical talent than Bess. Bess is great at what he does and I think he is much more effective as a slot WR who can work underneath. Hartline is looking more like a complete WR with the size and speed of a starter.

Well, that is still to be determined, as Bess seems like a more reliable receiver, and Hartline so far has looked like a more explosive receiver, who is better will be known later on, but for now Bess is the more polished receiver.

No matter what though, I believe we have two very good ones, no matter which is better then other, and the future of our receivers might be getting better fast.

Dude, it took me way to long to read your post. I couldn't get through it because my eyes kept drifting over to your avatar.

hartline SHOULD be the starter.

nothing against bess at all. he is the PERFECT slot receiver
as far as i am concerned and that is where he should be.

hartline is bigger, more physical and can get open down field.

and, he is a good blocking wr also. bess is a willing blocker, but
he just doesnt have the strenght or size that hartline has.

a starting wr has to block in the run game a lot, and bess just isnt
built for that.

so, providing hartline is what he appears to be, he should be the
starter next to ginn.

he just may be the suprise of the draft this year. i for one winced
at the pick and thought he would be lucky to get on the practice
squad. but he has shown he has some REAL nfl game. is shifty for
a big wr and can get open down field [which we need in the worse way].

LAST SEASON? thats exactly what it was....last season.

we are going on THIS season, not last. last year doesnt
mean a damn thing other than you have to start all over.

we have different talent this year. we have guys who can
move positions around. bess is real good, but not what we need
as a full timer on the outside. hartline is bigger, more physical
and can get open deep. and because of his blocking, he is not
a liability in the run game as bess is when having to block down
field.

last year, we didnt have that kind of player and it was bess by
default. but thats not so bad. this is a blessing as it puts bess
in the slot where he belongs, where his talents are more suited.

last year is last year, and that writer was acknowledging that fact!
