As most know, we save $3.1M this year and have $4.2M in dead money, which comes back alive to spend on next year's cap. However, we also wipe out Hartline's salary of $6.1M n 2016 and the same $6.1M in 2017. So, we have $3M this year, $10.3M next year, and $6.1M in 2017 to spend on another player/players. His total cap savings are $19.5M over 3 years.

For example, we could sign a DT or OG, etc for $6M a year and Hartline's total cap savings will pay for 3 years of the deal.

In the end just another bad contract. I think we all can see see a Ponte is nothing special

Big Red does not pick who we sign, just makes the cap work and has done a fine job.

She has done nothing special to make our cap work.she has had her share of bad contracts. When you rarely resign our own players and have not had to pay a qb that's why our cap is ok

Who to sign is not her choice. She just makes it fit cap wise. Half of the NFL has no QB but, some have gone into cap hell.

We are getting sidelined here. I'm just pointing out what Hartline's cap savings can turn into.

thanks I didn't understand the concepts of math and time until now

and once again just shows what a ridiculous contract we signed him to

Many just look at this year when a player is moved without seeing the bigger picture. Wallace is another example.

If traded this year, we only save $5.5, with $6.6 in dead money we get to spend next year. We also save his salary of $11.5M next year, and the same $11.5M in 2017. That's $18M next year and over $29M for 2016 and 2017. That pays for Tannehill for 2 years with no other moves.

True, and we have many of those to deal with. Aside from Wake, none of our top ten highest paid players played up to their contracts. That's almost as hard to believe as our draft "success'" We've been like the damn blind squirrel. It's debatable which one has had a better track record.

yup... some bad moves, bad expensive signings... but its all stuff we can slowly work out and fix in time... just gotta do it

I agree with dlockz on this one. Ellerbe and Wheeler are examples of her albatross contracts.

Not resigning our own veterans is tragic. Looking at tiny market Green Bay extend and rework their own guys is a thing of beauty. Seeing us just be a farm team for the big leagues is tragic. And as dlockz points out, we will see how good she is only after Tannehill's next contract hits the cap.

Not saying she is doing a bad job, just saying she isn't anything special at the cap. Our real problem comes in needing a good GM.

I'm not completely sold on Hickey yet, but at least his draft was solid. If he had traded up and gotten Zack Martin I would have been impressed. Hopefully Turner and Tripp will step up, Albert stays healthy all season and we don't lay an egg in free agency.

i mentioned Zach Martin in another thread and how frustrated I was when Dallas drafted him 3 before us.
