I'm going with Joe Philbin instead. His seat couldn't be hotter and he's priced at +1,514 - higher odds than the 49ers' unprepared Jim Tomsula.
The SportsLine Projection Model sees Miami going 8-8 for the third straight year, which probably would result in Philbin's firing assuming he misses the playoffs for the fourth straight season.
But Philbin also has a clear path to an early dismissal. If Miami -- which made Ndamukong Suh the highest-paid defensive player in league history and committed $96 million to quarterback Ryan Tannehill -- gets off to a 1-3 start, Philbin could be gone ahead of the Week 5 bye.
"The roster, since I've been here, has never been as good," owner Stephen Ross said, indicating he won't tolerate another non-playoff season.
By all rights, Miami should start 3-1 or 4-0: The Dolphins visit Washington and Jacksonville before hosting the Jets and Buffalo. Miami is favored in each of those games.
With Miami desperate to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008, and Philbin having gone 23-25 while showing questionable in-game management, Ross has run out of patience. That makes Philbin the easy pick at such a healthy return.

Odds on first coach to be fired
Jay Gruden, Washington+251
Mike Pettine, Cleveland
+552
Ken Whisenhunt, Tenn.
+753
Jim Tomsula, San Fran+1,209
Joe Philbin, Miami+1,514
Sean Payton, New Orleans+1,514
Gus Bradley, Jacksonville+1,819
Chip Kelly, Philadelphia+1,850
Lovie Smith, Tampa Bay+2,023
Jeff Fisher, St. Louis+2,536
I am not wishing Joe gets fired by any means. I just saw this so I figured I would post this in case others didn't see this and get your thoughts.

I think a 1-3 start would be so disappointing, but firing him that early would and should have fans wondering why the **** you kept him to begin with. You'd have to hope he can pull it together and at least get it to 3-3 before the big stretch of the last 10 games. We really need to be like 5-1 at worst after the first 6. The next 6 games are just ridiculous.

It's playoffs or bust for Joe, this time I believe it's a real threat. Kelly has back to back 10-6 seasons, shouldn't even be on that list. Fisher should be near the top. redskins1 will not like this list.

Dolphins seem to have a pretty easy early schedule and, even though there are some holes, some decent talent on the roster.

After the way the last 2 seasons ended I was concerned that this could a land a top 5 pick this year. The season finishes have been absolutely disturbing. It's not like its a solid roster from top to bottom but they should have enough talent to win some games. Ross isn't all that hard to please either.

I'll take anyone's money willing to bet that Philbin is fired at season's end or anytime before.

I disagree that Miami has to absolutely be 5-1 or 6-0 to be able to make the playoffs, and I am sure Ross know this also. Even though the next 6 games as you said are ridiculous (@Pats, @Bills, @Eagles, Cowboy, @Jets, Ravens), Miami is fully capable of winning some, most or hopefully all of those games depending how well the defense and Offense clicks.

I will agree that if after the 1st 6 games, if Miami is not at least 4-2, that will put Miami in a horrible hole, with little confidence with what waits next, but even still you never know...Miami has made a habit of playing down to bad teams one week, then play up to good teams enough where they win or get within one bad call or missed defensive stop.

Midseason firings are for absolute losers, teams that have already had abyssmal season and this one seems to be going in the same direction. Obviously if Phins are all but eliminated from playoffs at mid point, having a record like 1-7, 0-8, firing is on the table. Otherwise I do not believe in giving up on a season, I dont see a point in midseason firings. I dont see how Chip or even Tomsula who is a first yr coach thrown into tough situation can be on that list.

I really don't see a 1-3 start being possible, but if that happens by all means dump Joe and start the Lazor era...

That being said, I don't think Ross would do that. I think Joe gets half the season minimum.

I also believe Joe will finally have a good season. I do believe the team is talented enough now to overcome some of his deficiencies on game day. I think he is a pretty bad game day coach, but he is decent in preparing the team and developing players. He appears to have put together a pretty decent coaching staff now, with the exception of perhaps Coyle.

I'm a little less down on Philbin now than I've been in the past. He's made some positive changes this offseason. Hopefully it will carry into the season

Fisher is at the top of the list. That guy is a terrible coach.

I agree with you, I really don't think he will be fired. It's not a question of will Miami succeed this year, but actually by how much.

There's no reason this team doesn't win at least 10 games. I don't think much of Joe but even that idiot can caretake this roster to the playoffs.

Ross won't fire anyone in a timely manner...no matter how bad they do.

I think Gruden, Pettine, Whisenhunt, Tomsula, and Smith still too new on the job to get canned before the season is over.
So that leaves Philbin, Payton, Bradley, Kelly, and Fischer. If Chip Kelly gets canned early, it's going to be for some kind of incident. There's something a bit off about that guy, imo. New Orleans appears to be in semi-rebuilding mode. I don't know if it was Payton, Loomis, or both that chose that team's current direction, so I don't know which of them is really in the hot seat. However, they both have good track records and I think that probably earns them the patience of seeing through to the end this thing they've started. That leaves us with Philbin, Smith, and Fisher. A bad start by any of them could show them the door. Of the three, Philbin has the easiest Sept.-Oct. schedule. That could make him safe. Tampa's Sept.-Oct. isn't too bad either, so Smith may be safe. If I had to make a bet, I'd go with Fisher. He might only have 1-2 wins heading into November.
