i was just wondering if he was interviewed. If he has been, I hope that he is picked.

He is not qualified to be a candidate! Why do people think so - because he was a fill in? He can't even land a DC job anymore. His D's were never dominant - they were bend don't break. Under him we could never stop a team at the end of a game when needed. I like his fire but not as a DC let alone a HC. That would be worse than hiring Carroll - well maybe not that bad.

Can you answer my question?

his D's were dominant!! When he was coordinator, we always had a top 5 defense.

i dont remember him being interviewed but he was mentioned..

plus you do know he hasnt been in the league for a year now

That's the same thing I was wondering. I know he has been quoted as being interested in the position and wanting an interview but it hasn't been mentioned. You just get the feeling that Wayne isn't taking him seriously.

I don't want Jim Bates as the next head coach. His defense was vanilla when he was here. Everybody just thinks highly of him because of what he did at the end of 2004. I don't think he would be a good long term canidate though. I could see him doing better at the college level since he is a ra ra guy.

Yes - he didn't interview. Miami is interviewing every coach in the NFL it seems including the Chan Gailey's of the world. That should tell you how highly Bates is thought of. Not to be mean but I wouldn't even want him as a DC. Heck even the Packers didn't and look at their D!

Is he any more lacking for qualifications than Ron Rivera, Mike Tomlin, Brian Schottenheimer, Cam Cameron, Ken Whisenhunt, etc.?

The year off was Bates's choice. The Pack asked him to stay. He was also offered DC roles by the Texans and Rams (as well as others, possibly). This year, he has been mentioned in the media as a DC candidate for the Cowboys, the Broncos, the 49ers, etc.

Agreed that his Ds were a lot vanilla, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he was just one more guy who got burned by the career destruction machine known as Dave Wannstedt. In his other stops, he has been far more creative and aggressive. Heck, I believe he attempted to implement a 2 - 5 base defense at one stop. The blitzes started getting a lot more frequent once took over the head coaching duties from Wanny. In Green Bay, he blitzed 30.9% of the time (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 01/08/07).

In short, I'm a big fan. He's tough, high energy, flexible, aggressive, and decisive. In his short stay at the top of the Phins pecking order, he dealt admirably with quite a few roster moves due to injury and underperformance. He immediately helped spark an 8 point/game jump in offensive production. And he nearly went .500 with what was to that point a 1 win team. The 2007 vintage will be in better shape so it'd be nice to see what he can do if given a proper shot.

Just say no to Jim Bates. Its time this team goes in a new direction and brings in some fresh blood. Don't hire someone that has already been here in the past.

I know the Broncos are interested in him for the DC job.

I hope they at least give him an interview. If you did watch when he was in charge of the team you can see the players, ie. ZT and JT, loved him. He seems like a great leader. Contrary to some peoples opinion I do not think an interview could hurt at all.
