I'm going to preface this post by saying that coming into this season, I was hoping that Feeley would win the starting job over Frerotte. I was hoping that with a real offense in place, he would shine. From what I've seen in PS so far, he really hasn't and neither has Frerotte.

The reason I'm asking this question is because I'm having a hard time classifying Feeley vs. Frerotte a competition when it seems as if Frerotte has gotten more time with the 1st team than Feeley has, thus giving Frerotte more of an opportunity of winning the starting job. Even if he starts the last game of the preseason, Frerotte has gotten the bulk of the workload. If Feeley does start that last game, that would mean he started in the 2 most meaningless games of the preseason (even though they all are pretty meaningless). Why didn't Feeley start vs. Pittsburgh? Granted it may not have turned out good but give the kid a shot if it's a legitimate competition. Saban seems like an honest guy and from all accounts, has said the QB competition is an open one. I get the feeling that his actions are speaking so loud right now, that I can't hear what he's saying (if you read his book, you know what I mean by this). Maybe I'm wrong.

Use the term 'competition' loosely with how these guys are playing.

I belive you might be right. For starters Feeley should be starting this week against Tampa, and I believe that he should be starting come week one vs Denver. I know it wont happen though. I truely belive that Gus will be starting because of Linehan and his knowledge of his offense, its kind of sad that Feely wont even get the chance to learn the offense........

:chuckle: Once they brought Gus in I was pretty much thinking the job was his lose and considering the play in TC and the games. He hasn't lost anything. The knowledge of Linehans system has helped in the "competition" tremendously.

The question that I think should be asked his how many games can we win if Feeley is the QB and how many can we win if Frerotte is the QB. I know that you can't answer that question since the games haven't been played yet but if Saban feels that we'd be say 1 game better w/ Frerotte as the QB but still not good enough to make the playoffs, what's wrong with starting Feeley? This way, it would be clear to all of us (if it's not already) that Feeley is not the answer and we can get a new QB and cut our losses w/ Feeley. I don't see Frerotte having a renaissance and all of a sudden playing like he did before he head butted the wall in Washington.

How is Sage doing? I only got to see the Chicago game and he impressed me there. I hear he's been doing really well this preseason, I was hoping he would be competing for the #2 spot.

Feeley had his chance, and still does, but it's up to him to grab the bull by the Horns!! Enough of the he needs to play to get better, he needs to earn it!!

We need to find a QB, we don't have anything but backups on this team!

Are you saying that Frerotte has "earned" his playing with the 1st team? Do you think Frerotte is outplaying Feeley to the point that he's "earned" these starts?

Yes, quite a few of us believe that, including Saban it seems.

If Saban believes this, Frerotte must be doing amazing things in practice because nothing he's done in the PS games would lead me to believe that he's been playing so good that he deserves to start. I know, I know...if it wasn't for those drops and that damned OL Frerotte would have shown how good he is. I'm not buying that! I can only go by what I've seen in PS. Feeley is playing about as good as he has in the PS games so why not give him a start in a game that means nothing?

feeley already started, and obviously saban didn't like what he saw.

You believe that because that is what you want to believe. Gus isnt outperforming AJ as far as play goes. The major factors in why Gus will start are these in no order, 1) Linehan is comfortable with Gus and Gus has a comfort level in teh system AJ doesnt have yet, 2) Gus seems to have a presence with the players around him, he seems to have the vet confidence that players respond to, and 3) Saban isnt concerned with just this year, but the future, but that doesnt mean he doesnt want to get out of teh gates realtively quickly this year and be competitive, and Gus has more experience as well as more experience in this offense, he is a safer pick.

It would not suprise me that Saban is also upset that AJ missed time in teh offseason and Saban felt he should have been here. Could be questions his commitment. Maybe off on that, but watching Saban that is something he stresses. It wouldnt also suprise me that Saban wants to make sure AJ has teh system down and has teh same comfort level that Gus does before he actually gets the shot.

But to say Gus is clearly outperforming AJ is a subjective wishful thinking stance.

I went on record two weeks ago that each QB should be given a chance to play a full half with the starters in each of the Pitt and TB games. Each guy should get a full week's reps with the starters - uninterrupted - with no bullsh*t musical chairs along the o-line.

Give Berlin and Rosenfels the second halves of each of these two games and almost the entirety of the last game. Those competitions would iron out the #3 position.

I agree that indeed Frerotte may be the better man, but this has not been a fair competition to Feeley. He keeps getting 2nd stringers and re-arranged lines everytime he comes into a preseason game.

There's just no consistency anywhere in this offense this offseason. Saban Knows Best, I'm sure, or at least I hope I'm sure.

Yeah you coulda done better right? Name me ONE 1st yr starter that would have looked good last year in our offense? Ridiculous.
