I've always wondered that, it would probably be hell on a guy's arms though.

I've been saying for a while now that one of these years there is going to be a player who is going to be a top notch pitcher and a top notch hitter.

Rick ankiel was pretty good, not top notch but the best P ive seen that hit. **** he's an OF now batting liek .270 last i seen

Justin Vargas with the Marlins used to pitch and DH at Cal State Long Beach. Doesnt make him a major league hitter I know, but he was pretty good at it in college.

Ruth, of course. Jason Vargas, sure. Mike Hampton, definitely. Jason Marquis is very good. Dontrelle Willis is having a bad year because he gets pitched to like a hitter. Bob Gibson was a very good hitter. Tony Cloninger once hit two grand slams in an inning. Walter Johnson once hit .425. Don Newcombe hit very well, too.

So the answer is yes. Before 1972, there was no reason for a pitcher in either league not to be able to handle the bat with some ability.

Doesn't Carlos Zambrano have like 4 or 5 home runs with the Cubs this year.

I think he does

Fact-checking is a wonderful thing, and yes, he has 5 along with 10 RBI. Kerry Wood has also hit a few out of Wrigley. But then again, I can hit a ball out of Wrigley.

Dontrelle must have read this thread before pitching tonight. He's got 3 hits, 2 HR, and 4 RBI tonight. And the starting pitcher for New York was a lefty.

Oh, and he's through 8 on the mound.
