How did we get here? How did we get to the point where not making the playoffs means the Miami Dolphins have failed?
Where is the perspective?
Step back for a second and think about the fact this team was handed the hardest schedule coming into the season, started 0-3 but fought back to get above .500. Consider that this team lost four critically important starting players but kept clawing.
Recollect that just two seasons ago this team was 1-15 and had no hope.
I'm not saying any of those factors should excuse Sunday's overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans, but I am trying to make the point that maybe it'd be wise to step back and take a real good look at this team for what it is.
The Dolphins are 7-7 with two home games to go, still in the hunt for a Wild card spot even though they'd need Moses to part the Red Sea again to clear the way, and most importantly, they are the team that nobody in the NFL wants to face because of how tough and physical Tony Sparano's team is, because of how they fight till the very end.
There is no quit in these Dolphins, and that's a good sign. But this season has shown us that despite however many lost opportunities - letting New Orleans and Indianapolis off the hook, giving away a game to Buffalo, squandering a gutsy comeback to lose in overtime to Tennessee - there's still plenty of work left for the Trifecta.
Plenty of room for improvement. Plenty of reason for Bill Parcells to keep grinding instead of riding off into the sunset.
