Did Dolphins ask Vernon Carey to restructure to make a final run at Kyle Orton?

Since reporting yesterday on my Twitter that Carey was not at Dolphins camp, I have had this funny feeling that Miami had either cut Carey or asked him to restructure his deal. Earlier today we found out Miami had asked Carey to take a pay cut so they could sign or trade for a certain unknown player. So, I have been thinking all day about who this player X is.

My first analysis is that the free agent market is pretty dry and most players out there would not require large contracts. Players are signing left and right and very few players have signed big time contracts. So whoever Miami is targeting will require a large sum. Carey contract if restructured or cut would give Miami about 4.5 mill to play with.

Two names have been suggested to me Leonard Davis or Kyle Orton and my gut feeling tells me Orton. It will be very interesting who was the player Miami was referring to when they asked Carey to take this pay cut. Remember what ruined the Orton trade was money. Stay tuned.

IDK i dont believe Davis will command that big of a salary this year. I wouldnt imagine its just for him. Now it could be to make room for him and O hara?

I'm still waiting for Aug 4. I think the Broncos may cut Orton because his salary is way too high for them. Hopefully we pick him up.

Don't we still got like 7 to 5 million. That should be enough to get Davis and ohara. Then if we fix Carey's contract and sign solai to long term we can get orton

I look at all this sigings the Broncos have done McGahee, Bunkley, Warren, Rosario, Fells, Harvey this team neaded to get rid of Orton to build cap space, so something tells me a trade or Orton being cut is still very possible.

according to all "sorces" aka Darlington and Omar(take it for what its worth lol) we are not interested in signing him long term yet.

yeah as i understand it they were over the cap before those signing right?

davis and ohara would make sense if we didnt have a steaming pile of dog crap under center. the guy could have a half hour in the pocket and he would still lock onto his primary read and then check down after about a second and a half.

in all fairness just bout the best henne has ever looked was behind that sick oline at the end of 09 when he was given all day in the pocket

true, now im imagining what a real qb could do with a pocket like that. that was some great protection

lol no doubt. Every game the best thing the Announcers could say bout the offense was how much time they were giving Henne. LOL

Im wheeling and dealing in my mind. Fins save about 4.5 mill by restructuring Carey. Well, how much would they save if they included Starks in the deal for Orton?
