Have Fins asked Vernon Carey to make a final run at Kyle Orton

Agreed! I`d love Orton to come but I`m also being realistic; I do think this squad is on the verge of being very good and competing for a championship, but not this year, the schedule is BRUTAL! Get Goldson and draft a QB in the 1st next year and then we are set to challenge. Don`t get me wrong, I`ll be cheering the team on every week as I always do and I really hope we make the playoffs this year, I just don`t see it.

I don't think we need another safety in a hurry - Wilson, Jones, Bell, Clemons, Culver and possibly Ness is a pertty solid group. But I agree that mortgaging picks and top players for a second string QB in a year when we face a brutal schedule is a bit of a waste.

I'm guessing Sparano would do the deal in a heartbeat but Ireland is resisting and hoping his prudent dealing will keep him his job if Tony gets the hook

1. Carey isn't worth his contract; take a pay cut or bye bye.

2. It's not the one year amount that Orton wants; it's length and total amount that is the problem. Zero teams in the NFL believe Orton is worth 5 years $45 (what Kolb got from Arizona); Orton believes otherwise.

3. I suspect this has more to do with resigning Soliai or extending Wake.

you do understand orton would cost us a 2nd and a starting DE (aka perhaps starks)? crazy overpayment for a third tier qb

I'm still waiting for Aug 4. I think the Broncos may cut Orton because his salary is way too high for them. Hopefully we pick him up.
he is not getting cut when the press in Denver says he is clearly the front runner to be the starter over Tebow if he is not removed from the team. Right now they say tebow is competing with quinn for 2nd string.

There are certain coaches that are "SAFE" to suck for Luck. harbaugh is one of them, I don know if fox is even if it is his 1st year.

Remember what ruined the Orton trade was money. Stay tuned.
I sure hope not. Trading for him then giving him a long deal will only hurt this franchise. Even if Sparano and Ireland get canned, the next regime will want to bring in a young QB and having Orton around (who said he doesnt want to be a back-up) will only hurt the team. If we can get Orton for the right price (in trade and contract) I say do it, but don't over spend or give him a long deal. As of right now, not doing that will help this team's future with draft picks and money even if the current regime gets canned for a bad season.
