I was underwhelmed with this pick, I knew it was a necessary evil because we lost Fasano and Mastrud and we needed a blocking TE. However everything I read on Dion Sims is really positive, apparently hes an underrated athlete who has lost significant weight since college, is a good blocker and is excellent in the red zone. In particular people seem to think he is an excellent partner for a TE in the mold of Keller. I really don't think ive read anything that had a bad word to say about this pick.

Look im not saying he is going to be the next Gronk, but im starting to think we may be undervaluing this pick. Any thoughts?

I do believe that he is exactly what we needed. He will fit in just fine.

I was disapointed when even Kelce went off the board....I was not familar with this kid (Dion Sims), but after checking him out I am very happy with the pick,

The way I look at it, he cant be much worse than Fasano.

This is how I would compare Simms to Fasano: slightly faster, softer hands, bigger body, slightly better body control/jump ball skills, worse blocker but room to improve. Between Simms and Keller I think we will definitely see an improvement in the TE compared to last year.

Clay and Agnew are afterthoughts.

He will be a blocker first in my mind particularly as a rookie. What makes good blocking TE's scary is in the red zone. You can go all the first half with this guy doing nothing but staying in and blocking but then second half in the red zone you sneak down the seam for an easy score. Thats how I view this guy. They will work hard day and night on his blocking and as the season goes on, he will start to get into the gameplan more and more.

They screwed up on Egnew and they put alot of effort into not doing that again. I think we got a gem. I dont consider him a great blocker, but he has shown flashes, which means this coaching staff will take him to the next level. I thought he was a good kid from the interviews I saw.

Dolphins scout staff went deep into evaluating TE's especially having the few extra draft picks.

Many times teams have a top 2 list or top 3 list and if those guys are gone they switch gears.By the looks of it, this was one of those if all fails we'll take Sims in the 5th and this isnt a bad thing. He reminds me of a TE Eric Green we had in the 1990's.

The thing Ireland does very well is put out stuff in the media about who we are interested in, and we prob are, but there is always another guy or two they also think highly of as well.

They put out kelcie as a guy and also Escobar, but I think Escobar is not a blocker first type (not that I know a whole lot) and Kelcie has a bit of an tude problem. Which can be good on the field, but not so much off.

I think they really saw the future with Sims here.

i think Sims was a necessity .... read we needed a big bodied TE that can block - since we don't have one on the roster any more.

not so sure that Egnew is a mistake just yet .... they might just be conceding that he isn't going to be a blocker.

we shall see, but we didn't put much of an effort into TE .... and Clay isn't all that for sure. heck, we didn't even bring in a UDFA ...

Fasano is a jab, and Sims is the over hand right.
We needed some muscle that can catch the ball. Sims can do that. He runs flat footed, but he carries tacklers for extra yards.
I like the pick.

I like the 35 inch vertical. What a massive red zone target. The fact he can block is crucial, but to go get the ball at the highest point, with his frame is exciting.

Good potential. I like the pick. It seems like a lot of draft guys see a good upside with him.

I think if you're expecting about a Fasano clone, you're neither undervaluing nor overvaluing the pick.

Sims will play the Fasano role of blocking and being the big target in the end zone.
