What's going on with the Bears qb coach? Are we still looking?
"Yes, I'll call the offensive plays. I feel like I've been doing it for the last three years. I really enjoy it. I really enjoy that aspect of putting the game plan together with the offensive staff. So going into this season, that's how we are going to start, with me calling them. And then as soon as we can shake through putting a staff together, talking to guys here, if I end up finding the right offensive coordinator that eventually I feel like I could turn the play calling over, then that's the direction we'll head. But as far as right now, I will be the play caller."
We have seen great offensive and defensive coordinators rise up through the ranks but then ultimately fail as head coach. They got to the top of the mountain by running their unit with precision and efficiency and yes, just about every one of them called plays in their coordinator role. So, why give that up when you get to the top of the mountain?
No, or about 14 other jobs.
You may well see a number of hires from Denver when they are done with the playoffs
Exactly. Hard to imagine Knapp not coming along, probably as a combination OC and QB coach. There are some names on that staff I've seen floated also.
I mean there's not a huge rush. We're still ahead of every other team with a new head coach in terms of making hires.
If we're going to hire this guy because he's a damn good OC, we might as well make sure we get a damn good OC by letting him do it.
I must say that despite being very high on Gase, the idea of Knapp does not exactly appeal. I suppose its ok as long as Gase is calling plays and the shots offensively
I get that. But since Gase has already said he'll be calling the plays that limits the field somewhat.
If you want to get angry about a coaching hire, get angry about Foerster.
Yea not delighted by Foerster either, but going by the fact that the Colts only turned to Philbin after we got Foerster maybe there isnt exactly much out there. Perhaps should have just kept Benton. Oh well, until we get more talent on the line it probably does not matter anyway.
I know I floated this before and was kind of laughed at, but what about Peyton Manning? I know that's a big assumption that he will retire after this season and that he'd want the long hours of coaching, but maybe he would. He has a great relationship with Adam Gase and I believe he was a Dolphin fan growing up. May be something he'd like to do.
I refuse to believe that Chris Foerster was the best person who could be found on this planet to do that job. The cupboard is never that empty.
