Explanations
* Dennis Hickey needs to look over the waiver wire for the following: a veteran TE to help with inline blocking, a swing OT, LB, DB depth and a kicker. I am not saying he is going to find anything appealing in those positions, but those areas are the biggest of need heading into the weekend.
* I put Sturgis through, but I would test him in practice Tuesday and if he is not capable, I would IR him and pick up a veteran kicker for Week One.
* Damian Williams did enough to stick, but I cannot warrant a roster spot to 6th receiver that is a vested vet.
* I am willing to trade Matthews or Gibson for another position of need...interior line, DB or TE? It would elevate Laundry and might allow them to keep Damian Williams. However, I am not jettisoning either for a late round pick.
* I kept Matt Hazel as he has physical potential off the charts and draft picks need an environment to grow.
* Hopes were high for Daniel Thomas when he was selected, but it is time to move on.
* I ended up keeping Marcus Thigpen or Orleans Darkwa. I think Thigpen can help in the short-term more. His speed can be a game changer. I like Darkwa and had him on until today. Thigpen can help on special teams not just as a return guy, but has experience on coverage units. I classified Thigpen as a RB, but he will be used most as a receiver. This is the toughest spot I fought over when trying to formulate my roster.
* I kept Dallas Thomas, however, I easily could cut him from this list and keep additional DT or WR. While I am not keen on keeping 7 WR's, I can easily line up 7 active linemen on Sunday...especially if Billy Turner thinks he can practice next week. Along those lines, I think the team is missing a Swing OT. If that player is picked up, Thomas can easily be trimmed from the roster. He did nothing to warrant a roster spots and I am surprised that people are so quick (myself included) to put him through. Do not confuse playing time with actually making the team.
* I will attempt to beat Omar Kelly for the forth consecutive year in predicting the roster.

Have fun and rip away or agree...this is always a fun weekend for us hardcore fans.

I think one of them is supposed to be Jamar Taylor.

Hayden--good read. Where you have 10 OL, as well as 16 (rb's, TE's and WR). I would cut two roster spots from those groups for an additional LB and DL since Freeny is needed for specials and I'd keep another D lineman. Maybe Thiggy and Dallas Thomas go bye bye. I also predict Damian over Hazel. Not saying I agree, just my prediction that the staff will want Damian. Your prediction of Smith over Anthony Johnson took guts.

Not sure both miller and Hoskins make it, I think well pick someone else up and one of those two will be cut.

And is hazel really that physically talented? Not disagreeing, I just don't remember reading or seeing that. I do hope he makes it over Damian though.

I like the hazel pick, he would get pucked up and will be a good developmental guy. We won't dress 6 we every game anyway so I would keep the guy who you can groom over a vet like Williams. Really I would keep both over thigpen though

Already missed Kyle Miller. Damn it!

This team is going to have to add a TE somehow.

Thank for your insight Hayden. What do you think happens after week 4 when Dion Jordan r.Jones and pouncey return?

Good question. I got a copout answer…depends the current injury front at that time. Right now I would say the last DL of the group and Don Jones.

I think what I got wrong on my roster was that there are too many Jeff Ireland guys. Dennis Hickey and Joe will make their mark with this roster. Therefore, Daniel Thomas, Dallas Thomas, Marcus Thigpen, Rishard Matthews and others not listed could be in trouble.

Why wouldn't Dennis keep the guys he brought in?

Should be interesting 24.

I agree. Thomas has been given plenty of time to develop and is just not talented enough. Thigpen's muffed punt should cost him his spot - even though he had a great return later. PR/KR have to be consistent.

After game four, things will get interesting. Injuries and how well the subs played will determine who stays. The only positive thing to take away from these suspensions and Pouncey's injury is we get actual playing time for our depth players. This should help in the long run.

I think Thigpen's inclusion means Damian Williams can't be kept.. As 6th WRs their roles are essentially limited to ST anyway, and Thigpen has more versatility here (with KR, PR & coverage duties). So I agree Thigpen probably gets in on versatility.. If we can pick up a solid vet TE or OG though, I'd expect to see his name cut early.

What Hazel has shown so far this preseason reminds me a fair amount of what Matthews did 2 years ago in his first preseason.. Just enough to pique my curiosity and say, y'know I don't want to let him go. There's something there worth developing.. And our depth at WR means it's really a perfect time for it. Stash him behind 5 legitimate NFL starters, let him learn - you don't even have to dress him, but as someone said above the environment of being on the 53 and trying to contribute like the guys in front of him is perfect for development.

I have a feeling we'll regret only have 2 QBs on the roster sometime this season, but there's really no other option.. Devlin still doesn't have a job, so I'd assume he's on speed dial for if (touch wood) Tannehill ever goes down.

I wouldn't feel too bad about missing on Miller, he was just a placeholder anyway - he wasn't lasting past this weekend. We'll pickup some from a TE-deep team.. Not sure of any myself, but I usually have tunnel vision on the dolphins during preseason so any tips would be appreciated.

I'm excited about the UDFA presence on this team though.. Because you know if these guys make it, it's due to merit not just draft status. These are guys who deserve to be here - Hoskins, McCain, Williams should all contribute in some way this year. Yes, they took advantage of weak spots on our team but they've played very well so far.. Check out Chris McCains ridiculous PFF grade from the STL game.. +7.5, and now the top ranked 4-3 OLB in the league. I don't put any stock in PFF but that's one way to impress your coaches, balling when the pressure's the highest.

I agree that we need CB depth too.. It's going to be rough if we're as injury plagued as we were last year. I still don't trust Davis or Taylor enough for them to start against #1 or #2 receivers in the league. Dimitri Patterson went AWOL from the Jets maybe he'll sign up for vet minimum?

Good prediction though Hayden, let's see how accurate it ends up being!
