Positives
Negatives
Overall Assessment
- The offense was 6-11 on 3rd down.
- The offense ran for 107 yards on 19 for an average of 5.6.
- Brock Osweiler was very solid. He was 22-31 for 239 yards and TD’s. His QBR was 114.9. He tossed two dimes Kenny Stills and Danny Amendola for TD’s.
- Kenyan Drake. He had 72 yards on carries and a TD. The TD was from 54 yards.
- Amendola had 84 yards on 6 catches and a TD.
- Mike Gesicki had his best day as a pro: 44 yards on 3 catches.
- The defense was 3-6 in the Red Zone.
- Raekwon McMillan forced a fumble on the Lions last drive, but it could not be recovered.
Negatives
- Even Turnover Differential. Needed to win this today. The team did not. They forced two fumbles, but could not get them.
- Lost TOP 33:39-26:21.
- Gave up 4 sacks.
- Run defense. 248 yards on 35 carries for a 7.1 average. Unacceptable. It is what lost the game.
- The defense was 2-8 on 3rd down. Sounds good...no...think about it. The Lions barely got to 3rd down because they picked it up on 1st or 2nd down. Brutal.
- The Lions had 7.9 yards per play. 9.1 per pass.
- Matt Stafford went 18-22 and 2 TD’s. It was too easy for him.
- The Lions scored a TD on their first drive.
- No pass rush.
- Terrible PI calls on Bobby McCain and Xavien Howard. The McCain call helped set up a TD and the Howard call would have given the Fins the ball back with a chance to tie. Terrible calls IMO. Crucial times for Jerome Boger’s crew to get involved.
- That said, the neutral zone infractions Miami had was unacceptable. Cameron Malveaux was the worst as it completely changed the complexion of the Lion’s drive.
- Albert Wilson’s injury. So brutal. It looks severe. What is funny is if the defender did not trip him up, he was gone possibly. Unreal turn of events.
- I did not like the strategy at the end of the game taking the field goal. I get it. However, it has to be closer for such a plan.
Overall Assessment
- DeVante Parker and his agent...give me a break. The audacity to call out Adam Gase and the team. Parker has been unreliable, but even more important.. unproductive. He has been a non factor in games. Whether it was Jay Cutler, Matt Moore or Osweiler, they all have tossed interceptions throwing toward Parker. It is unreal to me that the agent waits until after a loss to call out the team. The agent insinuates that Parker could have helped the team win today. Was he planning on lining up at DE or LB? The factor of the matter is Jakeem Grant, Amendola, Wilson and Kenny Stills have completely outplayed Parker. Maybe Gase was using the health issue as a way to protect Parker from the reality that he is not very good (I told you he was going to be a bust). What nobody is pointing out is the agent, and in turn Parker, are dumping on the efforts of the other WR’s.
- There is a part of me that wants to jettison him to the NFC for a late Day 3 pick. However, I would keep him. Why? I would totally turn it on him and tell him to put up or shut up. See what you got DeVante?....starting Thursday night.
- Grant has to take a knee once in awhile. He is leaving some hidden yards on the field.
- Not enough people gave credit to the Lions Oline coming into today. Totally underappreciated. They are rugged, brawlers and was not a good matchup for the Fins. This was the type of game many talked about in the offseason: a game with a rugged line versus our personnel. Miami was missing that rugged DT and a presence like William Hayes. They are going to see more team run at them and they need to figure it out real quick before the season slips away.
- This team has to win the TO differential in order to win. They can not be even let alone in the negative.
- I hope to never see Jerome Boger’s crew anytime soon. Too many flags. They get involved in big spots. Terrible ref and crew.
- Nice scheduling that the Fins had two consecutive teams coming off byes. Unacceptable.
- At the end of the day, this loss is a non conference loss. The team needs all the wins they can get, especially at home. However, where the rubber meets the road is this Thursday. On a short week, with a banged up team, on the road...Miami needs it versus the Texans.
