Positives

  • Ryan Tannehill’s toughness. He took some major shots, was jumping over teammates in trying to make plays and other times playing magician in getting out of pressure while still completing the pass. One of the best examples was a 3rd down throw in which he somehow got out of pressure, rolled against the grain and completed a pass to Greg Jennings just short of the marker.
  • Tannehill also had a nice touch throw for a TD to Jake Stoneburner.
  • Jarvis Landry’s attitude. The kid plays hard. He is always looking to make a play whether it is in the passing game, running the ball or on a return. He plays tough. He cares. He is the team’s best player.
  • Kenny Stills 81 yards, 5 catches and a TD. He was open a lot and played with good energy today.
  • Zach Bowman came in relief at CB and played well. He had an interception, 2 PD’s and played physical overall.
  • Reshad Jones 11 TOT, 10 Solo.
  • Vertical shots down the field that garnered PI calls.
  • Laura Wright’s outfit while singing during God Save the Queen

Negatives

  • Another slow start. The defense allowed a TD in 3 plays: Grimes beaten deep, an Ivory run and then another Ivory run for a TD.
  • - 1 turnover differential.
  • Lost time of possession 37:23-22:37.
  • Chances for the defense to get turnovers on poorly thrown balls, tipped passes and a RB not carrying the ball securely, but the defense only earned one turnover.
  • The offense consistently off-schedule by not being productive on 1st down. Always behind the sticks today.
  • Only 226 yards of total offense.
  • 0-12 on 3rd down.
  • The offense had 8 cracks with goal to goal and could not score.
  • The running game netted only 59 yards on 11 carries. Receiver Jarvis Landry was the leading rusher today.
  • The defense gave up 425 total yards to the Jets.
  • Run defense: gave up 207 yards, 4.8 per carry.
  • The defense gave up TD’s 3 out of 4 Jets’ trips into the scoring area.
  • The defense was 6-16 on 3rd down.
  • No sacks again. Very little in the way of pressure on the QB.
  • Giving up a TD before the end of the 1st half.
  • Three times Ryan Fitzpatrick alluded the pass rush on 3rd down to move the sticks.
  • Ndamukong Suh jumping offsides and not wrapping up on a long Jets run.
  • Walt Aikens in coverage on the TD before the end of the half.
  • Derrick Shelby hands to the face penalty.
  • Matt Darr 32 yard punt.
  • Penalties on special teams.
  • Playcalling on offense: No balance, too many fades routes, too many play calls that expects the receiver to get the needed yards after contact to get the first down and no answer to a CB blitz. They also did not attack Antonio Cromartie enough. He struggled all day in coverage and should have been targeted more.
  • What was the rationale to the decision to attack and the play calling before the end of the half? The offense went 3 and out with 20 seconds left with three incomplete passes.
  • Some terrible calls went against the Fins. There was an awful spot on a Greg Jennings catch. The PI called on Devante Parker was bad. Darrelle Revis had a hold around Landry’s waist (per usual) on a 4th down play that ended with him intercepting the ball. Finally, the ball was out when Shelby ripped it from Ivory. There was not enough evidence to overturn the call.

Overall Assessment

  • I do not believe there will be any coaching changes.
  • However, I truly believe it is a mistake. After doing my write up, I almost feel this game was as bad if not worse than the Buffalo game in some aspects. There was nothing to be happy about in terms of the defense outside of Ryan Fitzpatrick airmailing throws and the Bowman pick. There is truly nothing happening on defense. The team has to jettison Kevin Coyle and allow Mark Duffner to coordinate. The many has experience and is at least another voice and point of view to lead the defense. Coyle has not one answer.
  • That brings me to Joe Philbin. Philbin has no remedies on what ails this team. Any solution he comes up with fails. Ultimately, Joe Philbin needs to be fired as well. This is a leaderless team in terms of their head coach. The team does not respond to his direction. Each and every week we hear about “getting off to faster starts” or “playing with more balance” and others...yet it never improves. Just why is it so vital to keep the man as the head coach? Answering “there is nobody else on the staff to take the team” is not a good enough answer.
  • This team has been outscored 77-27 in the first half this year. Tell me this is not about preparation and motivation.
  • Nothing is going to change for the offense until they start getting ahead of the sticks more. They are bad on first down by having a negative play or penalty and they are in constant 3rd and forevers. The team has to start finding a way to run the ball better to help with the down the distance and slow down the opposition’s pass rush.
  • Imagine taking some vertical shots and drawing PI’s?
  • While Bill Lazor struggled today, is it on Lazor or Philbin that the team is that unbalanced? As the head coach it is his job to make sure his coordinators have a global view of the game.
  • I see people starting to bash Ryan Tannehill. He was not good today, but he is far from the problem. He is not at point in his career where he can pull his team over the hump despite a terrible defense, awful pass protection and aimless coaching. That said, he plays his tail off. He is tough and never gives in. He needs more help and things taken off his plate. However, he is far down the list of issues concerning this team at this point.
  • At this point, should not Devante Parker being more snaps?
  • When you think it cannot get worse, Brent Grimes hurts a knee.
  • The Fins were very lucky to get 163 yards worth of penalties from the Jets.
  • I hate the Jets.
  • People joked about all the items the Jets brought to London this week. I disagree. It was the team being completely ready for the game. Todd Bowles had his team ready to play and that is what is most important.
  • There has to be lineup changes for the Tennessee game. Billy Turner needs to be given a shot and Dallas Thomas needs a seat. Zach Bowman needs more reps (something I have called for since the preseason). Devante Parker needs all of Greg Jennings reps. The team needs to pick a MLB and stay with it.
  • It was a wise move to keep Branden Albert out this week and give him the time to come back in two weeks. It will be huge for the offense when a healthy Albert returns.
  • The Fins are so anti-climatic. They had a chance to completely steal a game today they had no business winning by storming back. Yet, when the chips were down, they never made any plays to muster a comeback win. Seriously, when have the Fins done something completely unexpected in miraculous fashion?

Grimes beaten for a td is a negative but Tanny missing wide open receivers in the end zone doesn't make the list?

Edit: Grimes was beat deep in the first series but not for a td. My mistake.

Some positives for you Hayden
1. Good to not have our hopes up for a playoff chance. We can accept it early in the year and begin ignoring the Dolphins early
2. Might finally get rid of this incompetent coaching staff
3. By knowing we are out of it early, we might be able to trade some players before the deadline and get some picks back. Who knows, we might be able to drop some big contracts?
4. LANDRY! LANDRY! LANDRY!
5. No more London trips there with stupid 9:30 game times.
6. I went to church this morning instead of watching the game.

Here is the deal when it comes to Tannehill and this thread…he did not play great today, but he gutted out the game and he is far, far, far from the biggest issue on this team.

Agree with most points for sure. I don't think Ross has the balls or the knowledge to cut the coaches loose.

Bowman does need to play more. He's much better than either Mccain or Taylor.

Would like to see more Parker and less Jennings.

And man, I really want to like Lazor, but those playcalls are brutal. It's 3rd and long and we are throwing 3 yard curls? I get that RT doesn't have time....but at least take some shots deep. The one drive we actually threw deep we drew PI calls (despite poor throws by RT). Good things can happen if you take chances.

*For a game that was a "must win" there was no urgency at all on the part of the players. So flat and lifeless. Basically Philbin's personality. Watching other NLF games today, I don't see a single team that's as lifeless as ours. With the exception of Landry, I feel the players really don't give a sh*t. Collect your paychecks and go to dinner.

Thanks Hayden. I always like your write ups. I know, during days like this, it may not be pleasurable but I think many of us appreciate it.

Bigger issues than RT
1. Joe
2. Coyle
3. Guard play
4. No pass rush…1 sack all year.
5. Run defense
6. Play calling
7. Injury to B. Albert
8. Lack of running game

I could keep going if I wanted to call out individuals.

It is actually cathartic for me.

Loved the outfit during God Saved The Queen too

Landry

That's about it! Oh the sideline reporter at the Giants game...wowza

Ryan Tannehill was a huge negative today. He missed an unacceptable amount of passes.

I didn't turn on the game until late in the 4th quarter, so I will take your word for it on all those positives. :sidelol:

I will say that at this point, the problem with this team can be very clearly identified. We have a team that is absolutely bad at everything. We can't block, we can't run, we can't throw consistently, we can't stop the run, we can't cover anyone, we can't tackle. All we can do is wait for the other team to make bad plays. How did this team, which has a reasonable talent and certainly a number of quality NFL starters on its roster, get into a state where it appears to be completely impotent in all aspects of play?

How can this be anything but a coaching problem? I mean, you have a football team that has an appreciable level of NFL quality talent out there on the field and they can't do anything right. What other explanation is there?

And to add to this, I was told that at halftime as the team was going into the locker room, Joe Philbin told a reporter that the team's run/pass balance was no good. Wait a second, isn't this the same Joe that told Mike Sherman to stop running the ball? Is this Joe throwing Lazor under the bus? Is that why Lazor later called numerous pass plays for Greg Jennings in the red zone that were supposedly designed to be run with Devante Parker? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but at this point I have to wonder if the staff is scrambling to deflect blame here in the most passive aggressive fashion possible.

Our season is done at this point, but what's disturbing is that Ross is going to stand pat here. We are now going to degenerate into finger pointing, name calling, leaks, airing of dirty laundry, and more anonymous sniping from the players and staff via the media.

It's mean, but I'm going to say it: Steve Ross needs to Lane Kiffin Joe Philbin right there at Heathrow. Just pull him off of the team plane and tell him to find his own way back to Miami.

This loss is worse to me just because of how badly the jets tried to keep the phins in it with penalties and how this team could not take advantage.

When was Grimes beaten for a TD?
Beaten deep, not a touchdown, my mistake. But the question remains. It feels like RT got a pass from you.

Here is the deal when it comes to Tannehill and this thread…he did not play great today, but he gutted out the game and he is far, far, far from the biggest issue on this team.
Unless a guy walked off that field without permission, they all gutted it out. And I'm not saying he's our biggest issue, he's not, but he had a bad game today and it wasn't just the fault of the o-line or the playcalling.
