Positives
* Won the Turnover Differential 2-0.
* Lamar Miller. He picked up the slack this week and had 108 yards on 15 carries. 7.2 per rush.
* The running game went for 141 yards on 20 carries, 7.1 per carry.
* The pass rush was excellent today with 5 total sacks.
* Jelani Jenkins took another step this week. He had 15 tackles/11 solo, 1 TFL and 1.5 sacks. He combined for a safety.
* Randy Starks was active. He had a half of the safety and provided plenty of pressure.
* Jared Odrick had a forced fumble.
* Brent Grimes working all the way to the final gun as he stripped the Kansas City ball carrier and created a turnover.
* Jarvis Landry provided energy on a pair of kick returns.
* Brandon Fields twice pinned the Chiefs inside the five (once thanks to a penalty).

Negatives
* The offense managed 1 TD the entire game...and that came off of a TO created inside the 20.
* With the game still in the balance, the team running well, it was 3rd and 1 (2nd and 1 before that) and the team elected to throw the ball. Tannehill does not find anyone, holds the ball and takes a sack. A mind numbing play call and terrible execution.
* Terrible clock management at the end of the 1st half. They wasted so much time after the Daniel Thomas screen. When RT scrambled, but was stopped short of the end zone, nobody called a timeout at 5 seconds that might have allowed another play for the end zone. Instead the TO was called with 2 seconds left…leading to a chip shot FG.
* With the offense finally showing life, the team faced a 4th and 2. Instead of going for it, Joe Philbin elected to kick a long FG that missed wide. Philbin snatched momentum from his charges. The ensuing KC drive ended in a TD.
* After the explosive kick return by Landry in the 2nd half and momentum in their corner, the offense quickly went 3 and out.
* 4 of 15 on 3rd down on offense.
* Ryan Tannehill was 21 of 43 for only 4.8 per attempt. He earned a QB rating of 70.4. He was off in the 2nd half when the team needed him and generally onto the ball too long.
* Too many 1st half drops from the receiving corp.
* Ju'wuan James got roasted.
* Branden Albert's holding call that negated a long run by Miller. It got the offense off schedule and killed the drive.
* 4 sacks given up.
* The celebration penalty after the Brian Hartline TD.
* 3rd down defense…9-16. Too many conversions.
* KC scored 3 TD's on 3 trips into the red area.
* Kevin Coyle dropping DE's into coverage versus RB's.
* Jason Trusnik got worked in coverage.
* Jimmy Wilson's tackling.
* Cortland Finnegan bailed out of a tackle to stop Travis Kelce from scoring a TD.
* Punt coverage was woeful. KC's returner was foolishly catching punts within his 5 yard line. It did not matter as long returns were the norm.
* Landry catching a punt inside the 5 yard line.
* The team had an illegal substitution penalty in which an 11th man did not get onto the field. It did not matter as the Chiefs punt return went close to 50 yards.
* The team bench actually received a penalty for crashing into the official.
* Embarrassing finish to the game. KC was giving away yards to kill the clock yet Miami could not take advantage. There was no sense of urgency on offense. The defense all but gave up as KC ran the ball right at them…as the Chiefs refused to take a knee and scored a TD. The team looked listless at the end of the game.

Overall Assessment
* There is no excuse to lose like that at home versus a vulnerable Chiefs squad with mounting injuries. I did think KC would win, but not in that fashion. The Dolphins were a 4.5 favorite today and lost 34 to 15. Simply embarrassing.
* It does go to show what a great head coach like Andy Reid can do for a team that facing adversity. He is the clear, decisive leader in Kansas City.
* The different phases of the Dolphins do such a poor job playing off of each other. When the defense comes up big, the offense goes out with a whimper. When the offense comes to life, the defense gives points back. When the defense is rolling and the opposition looks like they will have poor field position, the coverage units cough up a long return. When the special teams come through for a chunk play, the offense goes quiet. There is simply no meshing of this team.
* With that said, Joe Philbin is coaching "not to get fired". He was again conservative in a spot to show belief in his team. I think his team is taking on his "play not to lose" mentality. Overall, the current Miami Dolphins are mentally weak and simply soft. I pin that squarely on Joe Philbin. There are times that the HC of the team must provide leadership and drive the team to a certain goal. Philbin is not demonstrating any of that.
* IF this team starts losing games, I could see this team totally tuning out Philbin. I have never thought that the players buy into their HC. Philbin does not have tight relationships with players on his team. It is obvious if this team does not win more than it loses, Philbin will be fired. If the wheels come off this team early in the year, look out…it will get really ugly. I am waiting for the "unnamed quotes" to start this week. Stuff like that happens when leadership is lacking.
* 3 straight games and the Dolphins have been down 2 scores at half time.
* I will say it again, Ryan Tannehill is regressing. It is becoming frustrating to watch. I wondered this past winter if it was a mistake to put him in a new offense. His football IQ is low and he simply has no ability to drag his team along when things are going poorly.
* 3 games and no interceptions for the defense.
* Dennis Hickey has to be questioned over his roster composition because the special teams units are struggling. I understand there are injuries at LB, but they would not be the gunners on punts. Someone like Don Jones should have made the team.
* I am wondering if we won "our bowl game" by beating the Patriots Week One.
* When people get chaffed that Brandon Fields does not get picked for the Pro Bowl, remember Dustin Colquitt today. Arguably, the MVP for the Chiefs today.
* The NFL gets a gem to show Europe next week. The hits keep on coming for the commish.
* Next week is a must win in London versus the Raiders.

WVDolphan's Get Real - Week 3 Assessment

Tannehill gonna Tanny.

Hartline was very accountable post game to be fair.

Great summary as always. Tanny is struggling and leaving the defense on the field too long. Coyle's scheme was ineffective today. The blitzes were not disguised at all. The future looks bleak. We have a lot of needs already including RG and MLB. A lot of big contracts will be dumped next year. Ireland was horrible.

Piss poor coaching is where it starts. Philbin is coaching not to lose, Lazor has been a major disappointment and Coyle got schooled by Andy Reid. Poor tackling, lack of execution by players, lack of discipline and then the issues with the QB. And once again this team plays with little or no emotion. This team has regressed significantly and quite honestly, I'm not expecting to beat the Raiders.

Painfully accurate write-up. I really feel sorry for Tannehill (I've been patiently hoping he would be the long-term answer) as he has put in the effort. The question now is what do the Phins do with his continuous regression? Sit him for Moore and he likely is done. How long do we wait till the fanbase, and team give up on this guy?

You are correct, 17 is regressing. Can't see him improving either. Today was a tough loss, but last week showed me how 17 isn't the franchise qb I had hoped and today proved it.

Good write up as always Dude. One more thought. Playing in London next week Tanny has the possibility of playing awful in two countries this season man.

Defense play calling and strategy is horrid, Rodgers should be in charge, Coyle doesn't have it.
