Hayden Fox's Preseason Week Four Assessment

Daniel Thomas is going bye bye- He goes down too easily. D2 does not and he offers ST play.

Once again liked Darkwa's running too. He finds the hole even though he gets shoelaced.

I thought Dion Jordan looked stout vs. run. I think he is simply doing what the coaches are asking of him and he is staying healthy. People are simply baggin on him because of Ireland. When in reality, the entire coaching staff wanted him.

I skimmed through the game quickly as I took my wife out to dinner last night. I had more fun with that.

Thanks Hayden. This helps.

What pissed me off is that Daniel Thomas could not even break an arm tackle, Michael Sam just reached back and grabbed him and Thomas went down like a ton of bricks.
Embarassing for someone who is supposed to be a power RB. Waste of a roster spot, Thanks Ireland.

I would keep Williams because of his return abilities. I would put Hazel on the practice squad. if a teams wants him, they have to put him on the 53 so I'll take the chance

Hayden, Much credit to you for not only watching the game but, giving your assessment on top of it, It was brutal to sit through, and the NFL has to do away with this game by going to a 17 game schedule.

I heard somewhere, possibly Joe Rose, that Damian Williams is the guy who is the most reasonable facsimile of Mike Wallace when it comes to the route tree. In other words, if Wallace gets hurt, Damian is the one guy who can run those same routes. If Wallace is hurt, and Damian gone, the playbook may lose flexibility because some of the Wallace routes would get tough to run. Maybe someone else heard the same thing and can chime in.

What the staff does with Damian, Hazel, Gator Hoskins, Thigpen, Daniel Thomas, Damien (and hopefully not trading Rishard or Gibby) will be incredibly fascinating. We'll see a lot about Philbin's judgement after we lost Reggie Bush and Brandon Marshall on his watch. If he continues to be focused on picking up chewing gum wrappers and not developing playmakers then he damn well better win 12 games or else this fan base will turn on him.

That's an interesting point about Williams although I don't see where he really has the vertical threat command of a mike wallace on a defense...there isn't any other options in house though...I would thunk a guy like Robert meachem should he be cut and I think he's in jeopardy of being in New Orleans could provide some of the over the top threat decoy stuff at least...

I said since game 1 he was too thin and plays too tall. Other than being out of position on every coverage play, or missing some open field tackles, he looked ok rushing against scrubs I guess. Not sure why everyone has been raving about him.

Too thin and too tall my ass. This kid can PLAY. He's shown more in one preseason than our #3 overall pick D Jordan has in one full year and a full preseason playing against the same level of talent. Jordan did start to get some pressure last night against the backups but hasn't done much other than that. McCain has flashed EVERY SINGLE GAME HE'S PLAYED so far, and is only getting better.

You realize that Jordan and McCain play different positions? McCain had some nice rushes, but he's missing all the other responsibilities of an OLB.

* Daniel Thomas ran hard, but had little to show from it. It looked remarkably like his other runs from his career.

This ^^^

Great write up Hayden! Thanks Dude. I think you nailed it. My disgust with Dana Thomas has shown nothing in 3 years. He does
not Deserve a roster spot on the 53, it was 60, sure keep his worthless 2.6 average. Other dudes stepped up like Damien Williams who were undrafted but outplayed
2nd round Ireland taint stain.

If they cut Barkley they are crazy but they already got rid of Jackson so who knows. They should work a deal with St Louis for Sanchez.
I don't think that would happen. Doesn't the Rams have the same offensive coordinator that was with the Jets during Sanchez' first few years? You might think that would be a positive with him being familiar with the offense, but I think it is a negative since the OC is familiar with Sanchez. He knows he sucks!
