* 19 Unanswered points.
* Miami rushed for 125 yards on 24 carries for 5.2 a rush.
* The offense was 4 of 9 on 3rd down.
* The opening drive went 68 yards on 14 plays and took 8:20. The drive ended with three points, but it helped the offense gain some confidence against a tough defense.
* Ryan Tannehill. His team needed him tonight and he delivered. He was an efficient 26 for 34 for 240 yards. He average 7.1 per attempt. RT had 2 TD's and 0 Int. His rating was 114.8. His ball handling on the team's first TD was tremendous. He fooled the Buffalo defense and got out of the pocket and found Brandon Gibson for a TD. RT consistently found the open receiver tonight and for the most part got the ball out quick. RT mixed in a few runs when the Bills got lazy with their discipline.
* Lamar Miller was a stud tonight. Fighting a shoulder ailment, Miller ran for 86 yards on 15 carries for 5.7 a rush. He played very fast tonight. Miller had a long run tonight in which he put a move on Leodis McKelvin that literally sprained the CB's ankle. Miller was a stud tonight.
* Brian Hartline came alive tonight. He finished with 55 yards on 3 catches. He averaged an impressive 18.3 yards per catch. Hartline did a ton of damage with YAC.
* Jarvis Landry was excellent again tonight. 46 yards on 5 catches and a TD. He showed excellent effort and fight.
* Damien Williams had a huge catch early in the game. He took a short pass on a 3rd and 24 and picked up a first down that kept the drive alive. He showed a nice burst and vision on the catch.
* Charles Clay had 5 catches and was available to his QB all game. While he had just 31 yards, he was there for Tannehill.
* I got to give the offensive line credit. Yes, there were five sacks. However, pressure was kept to a point in which the passing game could operate. The run game had life. Overall, the line competed their butts off versus an excellent D-line.
* The defense did not give up a TD tonight.
* Buffalo was held to 237 yards. Only 86 yards were given up in the 2nd half. Simply outstanding.
* The defense held Buffalo 0-2 in the Red Zone.
* Miami held Buffalo to 6-15 on 3rd down.
* Rush defense. Buffalo only gained 54 yards on 19 carries for 2.8 per carry.
* The defense came up big in some spots. Though Buffalo had long, churning drives in their first two possessions, Miami's defense held the Bills to just FG's. In another huge part of the game, after a Dolphins' fumble following a safety, the defense did not allow Buffalo to gain many yards. They forced a FG attempt and it was missed. Even after the Dolphins first turnover, Miami held the Bills to just three points.
* Forced a 3 and out on the first drive of the 2nd half.
* Brent Grimes held down Sammy Watkins all night. Watkins had 32 yards on 3 catches. Grimes shadowed him much of the game and Watkins did not have much success getting open against the All-Pro CB.
* Jamar Taylor. Hats off to the kid in his first start. 7 TOT, 7 Solo, 1 TFL and held up well in coverage even though Buffalo targeted him early. His tackle for a loss was a great open field tackle and dare I say helped set a tone for the defense's strong 2nd half.
* Reshad Jones 4 total tackles with all 4 solo. He had 2 PD's as well. Jones also blitzed on the Bills first drive and forced an incompletion. Buffalo had to settle for 3.
* Koa Misi. While there were teammates that had more tackles, Misi was a physical force tonight. He had 4 tackles, with 3 of the solo variety. He had one QB hit. Misi is vital to this defense.
* Earl Mitchell had a sack and a QB hit. Another week of being a disrupted force at DT.
* Olivier Vernon had a sack and a pair of QB hits. In the 2nd half, he started to have his way with Gordy Glenn.
* Brandon Fields's punting.
* Will Davis downing a punt late in the 1st half.
* Huge Safety on the intentional grounding call on Orton. Good pressure and the more I looked at the replay, the right call was made.
* PI call on Stephon Gilmore.
* Dan Carpenter's miss. Momentum totally changed after that miss.
* Won the Time of Possession 32:22 to 27:38. Considering some of the Bills' drives in the 1st half, it shows the Dolphins dominance in the 2nd half.
* 30 yards on only 4 penalties.
* Credit to Joe Philbin and his coaching staff for being able to "flush" a tough loss a few days ago against the Lions and come back and win a huge game versus a division opponent.
* Bill Lazor was money. On a short week, he had perfect design that put his players in a position to succeed. I loved how they came out attacking Buffalo. The short passing game with the crossing routes were drawn up beautifully in which the Bills had no answer. He mixed in the run after the opponent was loosened up with the pass. Strong night for the OC
* Kevin Coyle has had his own struggles with Buffalo over the last year. However, he finally solved the Buffalo offense and called a game in which his group ended up dominating the Bills.
* John Benton had his altered line ready to play.
* The pre game seemed electric with the fireworks and laser show.
* I like the aqua on aqua look. Nice change up.

Negatives

* Lost TO differential 0-2.
* The offense was 2-6 in the Red Zone.
* Shelley Smith holding penalty in the red zone on the opening drive (I thought it looked like Samson Satele).
* Tannehill fumble in the red area.
* Tannehill seemed to be able to pick up a 1st down on 3rd down, but elected to throw a low percentage throw. It went incomplete, but there was also a flag for offensive PI. He should have tucked it and ran for the 1st down.
* The design of a play that had Dion Sims in motion and having to block Mario Williams.
* Frustrating that Damien Williams gave life to the offense early, but was rarely heard from later.
* I thought it was questionable that the Fins went to pass while it was clock killing time. They almost threw an interception which could have been a disaster. The situation called for runs and forcing the Bills to use their timeouts. Miami's defense was in charge and the offense should have been playing off of that late in the game.
* The defense did not play with a ton of energy in the 1st half. The pass rush did not hit home and seemed to lack energy.
* Louis Delmas dropped an interception that he may have been able to bring back for a TD.
* The defense lost Chris Hogan way too much on 3rd down.
* Jarvis Landry fumble off of the Bills free kick after the Safety.

Overall Assessment

* How silly does Leodis McKelvin look after his disrespectful comments from last Sunday and then to leave the game after rolling his ankle after getting faked out?
* The line came through tonight. However, the line is going to be an issue the rest of the year. Miami faces some brutal fronts in the coming weeks. Hopefully, the group can improve their chemistry with more practice time. The offensive staff will hopefully come up with designs to minimize the pressure on the line. However, the new group with be scouted by opponents, obviously. Plus, the next two weeks, Miami goes into hostile environments which will be another challenge. The line did enough tonight, but more work is on the way. I am still concerned about what the pass pro will look like in coming weeks and if they can produce a consistent run game. The health of RT is still very much a concern as well.
* The Fins were the mentally tougher team tonight. In the situation in which it was "loser go home", the Fins kept their cool and played the cleaner game. The Bills had penalties and lost their cool after some tough calls went against them. Jerry Hughes totally lost it and got an unsportsmanlike penalty to keep a Dolphins drive alive. Miami was tougher mentally tonight.
* Ryan Tannehill was a leader tonight His team lost a heartbreaker last game and with Brandon Albert out, the QB needed to step up and he did. He has shown a ton of toughness physically with the hits he has taken, but he also seemed to take on the responsibility of getting the team over the hump. When he lost the fumble, he did not shrink from the moment. He looked angry and knew he had do better next time. He took a step forward tonight as being the leader of the team.
* The NFL is a Red Zone league.
* Dennis Hickey and Joe Philbin are going to have to search for CB help. With Will Davis going down and Cortland Finnegan still having the ankle issue, the front office has to sign a CB or two.
* Big win tonight. 6-4 and the team is right where I wanted them to be at this point in the schedule. Yes, there has been some adversity, but the Fins are going to have a chance to compete for a playoff spot this December. The stretch of San Diego, Detroit, Buffalo and Denver, I wanted to see them go at least 2-2. They have two wins now with a trip to Denver in 10 days.
* Just food for thought...get a Colts win Sunday night versus the Pats and the Fins are one game out of first place in the AFC East.

I am tired and I should have bagged work…lol. Got the weekend to rest. Enjoy the win.

Should have added that they finally "solved" the Bills. Good win. Good night and enjoy the win. Fins up! Talk tomorrow.

Why no love for the interior offensive line? Thought Smith played better then Colledge except for that holding call he seemed to be a force in the run game & Pouncey played much better this week

I agree with everything you said good post but about the bold maybe they went that direction due to previously trying to burn timeouts on the run instead of going vs the kill against GB and DET?

I can't say enough good things about Ja'Wuan James, Shelley Smith, Samson Satele, and Mike Pouncey right now. They went up against an all-world DL and were good both in run-blocking and pass protection. Ja'Wuan James right now, wow. And here many of us thought we over-drafted him at #19. Turns out he was a steal.

I will at least say for Dallas Thomas that he held his own on enough plays for our offense to function. He got flat destroyed a few times, but he honestly did better than I thought he would against Mario.

Do you agree with me that Michael Brewer is garbage? And Beamer needs to go

Nice to see the kicking game settling down. Sturgis is kicking more touch backs lately, too

Thanks for the write up. I was stuck in a work meeting and wasn't able to watch the game until mid third quarter. The worst of it being I have both DirecTV and NFL Network on my phone but we were in the basement of a building and I had no reception. :(

Just a question. I see that Thomas must have struggled against Williams at RT which was kind of expected but how did the interior linemen play overall?

Had to give you props for that gif of Miller breaking Leodis' ankle.

You got yer ankle broke, Leodis! Hopefully that weren't yer butt-kickin' ankle, cause you said you was gonna kick some butt. Oh, well!
