But one thing keeps sticking in my mind - Ryan Tannehill isn't "Their Guy"! Everybody wants "Their Guy". The guy that the Head Coach and quite often the General Manager hitch their wagon onto. The guy that they stake their jobs on. Tannehill was Jeff Ireland's & Joe Philbin's guy. (And Philbin wanted to ditch his guy after the first season). Nobody wants to be saddled with someone else's guy. Gase didn't even want to be saddled with someone else's backup, so he went out and got his own guy. (Obviously, that did not work out well, but that is a totally different topic.) I have ZERO sources, it's just a thought that I keep coming back to. Obviously, it doesn't have to be in round one, nor does it have to be this year, but. . . If I were Gase, I would want my own guy to mold from day one. If I were Grier, I would want to make the call. If I were Tannenbaum, I would want to get it right this time. This isn't about how good Tannehill is or could be, he isn't "Their Guy"

nothing more concrete than a fan blog....

Tannehill is the reason Gase came here. He is his guy
are you kidding me? I think the thing to say is he was willing to take on the challenge of changing and transforming him, but time is running out. There is a reason why mock drafts have Miami selecting a qb in round one. The same for the Bengals. The time is close. It is frustrating he got hurt and there could have been potential. But it didn't happen

I guess we'll see how they really feel come draft time. If he's really not their guy I don't see how they don't take a QB round 1.
because it doesnt matter who your QB is when your Left tackle is ranked in the 50s, both of your guards are ranked in the 50s, your center is ranked in the 30s, and your right tackle who was your highest ranked lineman not going to be on the team next year.

Seriously? lol!

I think for a fan base that wants to build through the draft and get better without higher salaries, we should welcome real competition at QB. Look at the Chiefs. Look what they netted for Alex Smith. It is virtually impossible for this team to be competitive based on the salaries it was for certain players. In 2019, they have to remove themselves from Suh, Branch and Kiko, at a minimum. You might want to add Tannehill to that. That's $44M, and you can still cut Jones too.

The current formula just doesn't work. You have highly priced Offensive Linemen, and they can't block. You have a $26M Dlineman, and you cant stop the run. You have edge rushers that cost about $25M that can't get to the qb.

This is my take and the guys who are dying for a QB will not like it. Gase has been one of the most up front coaches we've ever had. He doesn't go against what he says, until he does I believe him. Ryan will be the starter in 2018.

I don’t care who Miami drafts, just as long as they don’t pass on James we’ll be good.
Man I have to agree with you on this. If all things are stagnant, at least you have a qb of the defense for the next 10 years

I'm a Tannehill supporter because he's on our team but if they want to draft a QB then fine with me. They need to draft one anyway as we only have Tanny under contract but the question is in what round? We can't put all the eggs in one basket thought so we need to draft a QB no later than the 4th round imo

Ozzy rules!!

If Ross is long-term committed to Gase, then Gase has a lot of leeway; one thing that could/should happen- let Tannehill start 2018- he has little value to trade now due to injury.(Gase has said Tannehill is the starter for 2018, and Tannehill should start- Gase said nothing about beyond) Play him, let him re-establish value. Trade him NEXT year when we release the aforementioned players (Suh, Branch, et al) Then have the $44 million in cap space, the extra pick for Tannehill, and sell out for a QB they believe in. Draft one to develop this year mid-rounds, and you have a situation like Washington had when they drafted Griffin and Cousins at the same time- if one doesn't work out, plan B.
If Tannehill turns it around, lights it up like a young Dan Marino, well then obviously don't trade him and we can still chop those guys and build around Tannehill. But I think either way 2018 is just a "ride it out" year, a time to wait for past bad contracts/signings to expire, so a real overhaul can begin. I know we gripe about the Alonso, Branch signings, but sometimes if you let guys walk, you have no one to replace them with. Unfortunately we had no one to replace them with- so bite the bullet, sign them, try to replace them while we are stuck with their contracts(Harris, McMillan) and go from there.
