Help ! My son just came out of the closet !!!!

HELP !!!! He's my only son, he's only 15 and he just broke my heart. I don't know what to do. This is how I found out-last Christmas he asked me for money for his secret Santa-which is something they do at his school every year anyways. So yesterday I asked, "by the way what did you get your secret Santa ?." " A water gun", he replied." "And what did you get ?" I queried! "stuffs!" he replied grudgingly. "what stuff ?" I asked again. " Just some stuffs,OK !." He is now getting agitated. "I want to see them", I said.

Meanwhile the wife and the girls were laughing so hard because they already knew. So he shows me what he got, it was a Detroit Lions' knock off Calvin Johnson's jersey. I literary buffed in my mouth. I was so shocked and so disappointed that I asked "What happened son ?, I thought you loved the Dolphins." He said, "the guy asked what my favorite team is and I said the Lions." Whaoo !!! this from a boy I used to sit down and watched old Dolphins games with. We went to Miami to see Dolphins practice together. I mean practice not scrimmage, practice man ! He finally told me why. He said, "well I see you every year you're always sad and not happy because the Dolphins didn't make the playoffs. And I don't want to be like that." I was speechless. But the f..king LIONS???
 
He's allowed to like any team he wants...

As long as it's not the Jets/Pats
 
My son's a Houston Texans fan, go figure.(Loved Andre Johnson) But I let him choose his own team, without interfering (kind of) I told him if he chose to root for the Patriots, Jets or Bills I'd never buy him anything related to those teams. He asked if i was serious and I said absolutely. My wife said I was being stupid, but clearly, she doesn't get it.
 
As long as its not the Jets/Pats/Bills you are good. At least its also an NFC team too.
 
It's your fault, really. You set an example by following a mediocre team and he managed to exceed your own accomplishments by choosing an even more mediocre team. Your grandchildren are doomed to being Browns fans. Congrats.

You should be arrested for child abuse for allowing your child to be a Dolphins fan. That has to be some kind of cruel and unusual punishment. All of us over a certain age are stuck with them, but please do not corrupt the future. (Just joking of course, but…)
 
teach him the greatness of Barry Sanders!!!

and 100% at least its not the JETS
 
Living in the DC areas, my whole family are Redskin fans, yet I've been a die-hard Dolphins fan since as long as I can remember...and I'm 46 years old. My son is a Broncos fan. Let your son like who he likes and just encourage his affinity for the game.

As others have said, just be thankful he isn't a Pats, Jets or Bills fan. THAT I could see as a problem. Lions? Meh, no worries there.

Mine is as well. Funny thing happened this weekend. Cameron (my son) was running around the living room throwing a football to himself and he screams out loud as hell "Tannehill throws deep to Wallace, Wallace dives and makes an amazing catch for the touchdown, Dolphins win!". I just laughed to myself and thought, there is no way that would ever happen, Wallace has never dove for a ball in his life. Ah, the ignorance of a 6 year old is bliss.

I honestly can't stop laughing because as you explained what your son said I thought, "Ha! No way that happens!" Looks like the Dolphin fan mentality is all encompassing. LOL!!!!
