I'm writing up an "informative guide" to picking your favorite nfl team for a girl friend of mine who doesn't really know football. I tried flat-out telling her just to pull for the phins, and then started giving reasons why she should, and reasons why to hate the pats/jets/bills. then, jokingly, she said that I should just write a little hand guide for her. she doesn't know that I'm actually going through with it cause I think it'd be funny and interesting. Of course, there will be heavy for-phins bias and anti pats/jets/bills bias :p

But if anyone could just through out a few interesting/relevant pros-cons to some of the other teams out there, I'd appreciate it. So that way I wouldn't have to do all of the research myself. I'm hoping to finish it by Friday cause that's the next time I'll see her. Thanks in advance :thanks:

When you say, "Hey babe, let's take a little vacation in December and go to a game."

Options:

New York
Buffalo
Foxboro

Or Miami in the dead of winter...think about it.

In the middle of December do you want a smelly cab ride in bumper to bumper traffic or do you want beaches and fruity drinks with umbrellas in them. You want big parkas and a scarf or do you want a bikini and tanned bodies? You want to ride a buffalo or swim with the dolphins?

C'mon. How can this be hard to sell.

haha...that's actually a really good idea. I just finished doing the AFC North section, so i'll put this in when i do the afce section. i'm basically trying to think of a reason why she should hate every other team in the NFL besides the dolphins :p

afce rivals are obvious, but i'm also thinking of things like the chargers playoff game for disliking the chargers, the 84 SB for hating the niners, etc...

Look at where you are relative to NFL franchises. Everyone in Boone loves the Panthers. Atlanta is close by. Tennessee is slam full of rednecks. So relatively close by to Boone are these three franchises. But what history do these franchises have? And what fun are they to travel to? What do these cities offer? Females aren't as interested in football as men by default. So it's much easier to sell the city and what the city has to offer to a female as opposed to the football aspect. She's not going to care about the history behind these teams. It's all football to her.

Think about shopping and cuisine the cities in the NFL have to offer. San Diego and other California teams can rival the city of Miami easily but think of travel expenses. You can grab a flight out of Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale for roughly $160 which isn't bad at all. From Atlanta or Charlotte to San Diego you're looking at a 9 hour flight with layovers in possibly three or four different cities. And that's gonna cost you $300+ per seat. Who wants to spend half the day traveling? It'll take you a whole day to get over jet lag. Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale is an hour and a half MAX and both airports are easy to navigate.

This is Miami. The home of celebrities, fine dining, beautiful beaches, waterways, art deco, festivals galore, and warm weather year round. The Keys are 45 minutes South of the city and you have South Beach to tear up on a Saturday night before the game. How hard is Miami to sell to a woman?

Women don't care about reason unless it involves their emotions. Get her a Dolphins sweatshirt & help her put it on. Smile, kiss her & tell her she's the prettiest Dolphins fan you ever saw. The next time she wears it tell her if she ever roots for another team she can sleep outside or you'll break up with her, whatever. Watch the reaction carefully, she'll be 'explaining' how her emotions feel about the relationship, and the Dolphins.

Haha. Yours is a noble cause, my friend. Trying to combine football time and girlfriend/spouse time is like alchemy. There should be guides for that in the New Age section of the bookstore.

What he said, but no sweatshirt.... Tank top instead and make sure it fits just right too.

He's in North Carolina and winter is coming up. Perfect excuse to subtext warmth & protection. Also, he's obviously unsure of himself with her and she would know that. So I wouldn't give anything even remotely provocative that could make her natural alarm bells go off & distract or ruin the emotions & resulting attachments you're trying to cultivate.

these are all good insights, but not quite what i was looking for.

like, why shouldn't a dolphin fan like the texans? well...we've never beat them
jags? dan marino's last game :(
49ers and chargers i mentioned earlier

teams like...the bengals. i can't think of a reason why i, as a dolphin fan, shouldn't like them. they might have beaten us a few times, but what was that one time when they did beat us that was just unbelievable? one that makes us fans sick to our stomach (such as the jets monday night miracle)

basically...what heartbreak has every other team in the nfl given the dolphins over the years
