I was debating with some Jets fans today, and after a long, drawn out argument they even began to agree with me. Let me start by saying that Henne has much more upside and the ability to be a 'superstar' in this league, while Sanchez has the makings of a 'solid at best' QB (such as Eli Manning). Henne has the arm strength, intelligence, athleticism and overall ability to go above and beyond the 'solid state'.

To say Henne 'regressed' as one poster stated, is ridiculous. The Dolphins lost their starting running back (a back in which the entire offense was built around) and then asked Henne to throw the Ball 50+ in multiple games to win. Sanchez could NOT handle carrying the load and chucking it up that many times. Hennes stats in his last 4 games (not including Steelers) were as follows:

29-52 335
21-29 220
29-46 349
35-55 342

Now the TDs and INTs are irrelevent at this point. ANY QB who chucks it up that many times would have AT LEAST as many picks as him, and for example Sanchez threw WAY more ints throwing way less passes. The TDs were low simply because our BRUISING running game made it so he did not have to throw inside the 5 yard line very often.

Bottomline, I am a very good judge of QBs and I see Sanchez being a Solid starter just as I see Matt Ryan being a solid starter, but NEITHER have the makings of an ELITE QB, while Henne does. That doesnt mean he WILL, but he has the tools, ability and a much greater upside than either of those two.

I am very happy to have him!

:jawdrop: thats unheard of

Glad to see someone else who agrees with me. Henne even looked great against the steelers before he left the game, and thats with an average receiving core and injury filled backfield. The most important thing I saw from Henne this year was constant improvement and accountability after a bad game. His rebound after the Bills game was impressive, and that seems to be something that Sanchez doesn't seem to have.

Henne 2009 stats

Sanchez 2009 stats

Three things to consider... 1) Henne played a approximately 2.5 less games, 2) Sanchez has a decent TE (Keller), & #1 WR (B Edwards), and 3) Michigan QB's do better than USC QB's in the pros.

It all depnds on the role they are asked to play. Sanchez is a game manager IMO & reminds me of Matt Hasslebeck.

Forgive the analogy but Henne reminds me of Jim Kelly. A cerebral gunslinger. Well, as much as the gunslinger mentality (Favre, Peyton, Marino, Fouts, Warner, Brees, Kelly) is allowed in todays NFL.

I agree that Chad's upside is greater than Sanchez's. It, truthfully, is too early to pass judgement on either, next season will be the true measuring stick for both.

We IMO can all agree that both are better now than Brady Quinn or John Beck ever will be.

Other than the assertion that upside is something knowable, I agree with you. You'd think Jets fans of all people would realize how bad Sanchez has been for most of the year and how good they could have been with merely an average QB. A team with the #1 running game and defense should not have to back into the playoffs. Henne has been better with a much worse team around him. His arm won us several games and kept us in several others.

It's kind of funny how some Miami fans are so desperate to explain how the Dolphins are superior to the Jets right now because of the run NY is having in the playoffs this year. Really, if I was a Jet fan visiting this forum right now I'd have a ****-eating grin on my face reading some of these posts.

I can understand your joy. When you rarely get there and take it to levels that no one expects, you tend to celebrate like madmen. I get it. I understand. You deserve it. You guys have never really been where you are now. It's new. It's fresh.

The Jets are like that 23 year-old guy who FINALLY gets laid after all of these years. They're smiling. **** eatin' grin from ear to ear. He's got some swagger. Walking with some confidence. Smelling his fingers.

I get it. But when you've been there done that like we have, it really doesn't mean much. When you've been to the top of the mountain, that's all that matters.

So, enjoy bangin' those fatties right now Jet fans. But you gotta get the date with the 10 and knock it out before you earn my respect.

It's obvious Henne is the better QB and there's no doubt about it. Put Henne on the jets and they would have been a 12 win team.

Regardless of the playoff run, the jets still got swept and that kind of gives me a ****-eating grin.

We are saying that Henne is & will contiue to be superior to Sanchez.

I could insert a joke here about Wyoming but that would be mean & your horse probably doesn't have time to explain it to you.

No need to bash him, guys. He's right. I'd rather be in the conference final than sweeping the Jets.

Having said that, I'd rather have Henne than Sanchez. The jury is still out on both but Henne showed lots of promise whereas Sanchez has shown none to this day. Now, let's hope Sanchez gets schooled on Sunday (again) and has to suffer a sophomore slump next year. Maybe this time around next year, we have a clearer picture of the two but for now, the Jets are a better all-around team and deserve to be in the Conference game.

I really didn't mean to come off like a Jets fan. I'm as just frustrated as the next guy.

Sanchez is still bafflingly innaccurate at times. And he seems to make at least two or three truly boneheaded decisions per game. Frankly the second can be at least partly explained by the natural growing pains of a rookie, but the first I just can't figure. The ball just seems to get away from him. Sometimes it ends up in an INT but he's actually been lucky a lot of the time in that it'll be SO inaccurate no one can catch it. And I'm not talking about a situation where it was tight coverage and he threw it away. A lot of the time guys are open or there's at least a clear window. It's just a horrific pass.

If I were a Jet fan I would be very worried about that going forward. You just can't have every 12th pass flying nowhere in particular if you're going to be an elite QB.

As for the Henne vs. Sanchez thing, well... I don't think there's any question which one is the more talented prospect. Henne was my favorite quarterback the year he came out (yes, over Ryan and Flacco and the rest), and really showed a lot of patience and moxie given our anemic receiving talents as WR and TE. I mean, Jerricho Cotchery would be the best receiver on the Dolphins right now and he barely figures into their plans. What Henne really needs to work on is moving around in the pocket. He seems to prefer staying rooted to the spot and ended up throwing most of his INTs when trash got too close to him and he didn't move a few steps and reset himself.

Sanchez, for his part, has shown a lot of mental toughness being in New York and taking on that situation after only one year starting in college. I give him a ton of credit for his attitude and desire. I really do. But the fact is he's got a very average arm and always will -- is not really that mobile, have great escapability or pocket presence -- and shows that bizarrely innacurate arm now and then.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find even a Jet fan who would tell you that right now -- all things being equal -- they'd rather have Sanchez leading a last-minute passing dominated drive over Henne.
