Henne was brought in for exactly the type of situation we have now. Hes a big kid with a big strong arm. Hes got a huge challenge facing him. His WRs are horrible and the Oline is suspect. Maybe though, he can give this offense a shot in the arm. In every game, the QB is going to be asked to make a play when protection breaks down and WRs dont get separation. They have to buy themselves time, make a perfect throw, keep a drive alive with a huge scramble. Thats the intangibles that makes a QB a difference maker.
Fact is, we have no idea of what we have in Henne. For him, and for the team, this is a great opportunity.
Now we have Thigpen. Tyler Thigpen is a guy with some talent. Hes not huge, and he doesnt jump out at you with physical attributes, but he has shown he can play. Last year, he had 18 TD passes and on 13 INTs. Hes QB rating was 76.
Who wouldnt be thrilled if Chad Henne finished the year with a QB rating of 76? I would be and I would think we have a future with him as QB. As it is, now we have two guys that might be the future. Both are young, both have talent. One has played well, one is going to get his chance.
Even though the prospects for this teams success is bleak for this year, the prospects for the future might actually be brighter. Thats is contingent on the coaching staff preparing us than we have been prepared thus far. But you never know...anything is possible.
