I've seen some posts questioning Dan Henning's success as an offensive coordinator, and some misdirected stats to support that claim. I thought that this piece was a good counter to that stance:

So my question is this: will Henning affect an offensive turnaround similar to what occurred in Carolina?

Sounds good to me, Im really excited about the hiring of Henning.

This is funny, "The bad news for Dolphins fans in 2008 is that Henning's offense won't be confused with those of the 2007 New England Patriots or the 2001 St. Louis Rams. The good news is that it also won't be confused with St. Thomas Aquinas junior varsity, either".

My only worry is I hope he is good at play calling. Over the past 2 seasons the offensive playcalling, no matter who had been doing it has been really bad. This isnt a knock on Henning, just hope he is an upgrade there... I mean, he's gotta be compared to what we have had here recently, right?

I agree, but I think it was amplified by the fact that we have had players here that simply can't execute. That being said, our coaches lately haven't compensated by playing to our player's strengths. Even though the last one came here with that type of reputation.

so, back to wanny's run, run, run, punt strategy? i thought cam made a bunch of mistakes and was in way over his head, but at least the offense was exciting while guys were healthy

no no no... Run Run Pass Punt philosophy..:kick::sidelol::shakeno: aghhhh that was so infuriating.. And I hate this, its ok to punt, philosophy that our past coaches have loved to excuse

Electrify? Sorry, but Henning's offenses are pretty vanilla. There is no electricity about it. It's a pretty straight forward, conservative approach. The offense is going to rely on out muscling the other guy and grinding it out. That's the way Bill likes it. That's why we will be seeing our offensive line getting bigger and stronger until we have achieved a dominating, in your face offensive line.

I agree to a certain extent, but both Bill and Henning's offenses have usually had a playmaker or two that could stretch the field vertically and hit homeruns via the passing game.

Looks like Ginn could fill that role perfectly if utilized correctly.

Henning was the OC for the Jets in 98 when they were thirty minutes away from the Super Bowl. Must say that I liked his style and that the Dolphins are in good hands. Definately a Parcells' guy.

Living in NC and the fact that almost all of my friends here are Panther fans, I hate this hiring. Get ready for the draw play on anything over 3 and 10. The city of Charlotte was elated to be rid of him and now we have him.

You have to have strong players to play to their strengths, unfortuately most of our players had no strengths to play to. This team didn't have much in the way of talent until the last couple of years when things improved a little. Bad, and I mean real bad drafts have left Miami's cupboards bare.
Henning may not be great, but he can't be any worse than we've seen lately but thats JMO.

no no no.. it will be average at best imo.. but i have been proven wrong before lol

Henning was a great OC when he had a dominating offensive line and a mediocre one who was reviled by the fans when his OLine couldn't block. On a side note, has either Miami or Carolina had a half way decent line since Kevin Donnelly left the respective squads?

Well as much as i would love an electrifying offense, this offense is to young to run a complicated scheme IMO. Thats why I think Henning is the best thing that can happen to our young players. keep it simple and stupid.
