This team will draft for talent first, not to fill a particular need. That is especially so in the first round, when the fishing is most bounteous and the talent most special. The Dolphins will trust their own scouting and research that grades and ranks every player, and draft accordingly.

That’s smart. Teams that draft based on position need are either desperate, poorly run or so good they can afford that luxury.

If that's the case, trade down then give me:
Adoree' Jackson*, CB, USC
Height: 5-10. Weight: 186. Arm: 31.75.
40 Time: 4.42.
Skills, talent and a playmaker. Baby Deion Sanders.

We basically have needs at DE, LB, S, CB, G, DT and TE. So if we end up going for the "talent-first" approach, I believe it'll be in those positions. In other words, I don't see us getting a RB, WR or QB in the first round, no matter what.

There should always be a happy medium between BPA and filling a need, similar to the Tunsil situation last year. That's my opinion, at least.

Yeah you have to have a balance to some degree. But an overarching vision of taking talent over need is okay in my book.

Ya Jackson just looks like he's going to be an in your face CB. I love his confidence especially for that position.

Well, I also don't see why we would take a LT or RT either or a SS. BAP works to a point. Imo we should only draft DE,LB or FS at 22. There should be good talent at least in one of those positions at 22. Last year we gave up our 3 and 4 round picks in this year's draft to draft a WR. How did that work out?

Ozzy rules!!

A mix of both...the top talent at #22 may be a WR.

Do we draft him?

If you say, "If he's the top player on the Dolphins board, yes."

I'm blocking you....

Of course not. But we have so many needs that it does open the door up quite a bit. I mean, you could still call TE a need but I don't know how I'd feel about drafting one high and ignoring bigger needs.... Although I do feel like adding Njoku would push our offense into top 5-10 range.

Just draft defense. Preferably front 7. I'm going to be pissed if our top pick isn't a DE or LB.

I have been very very high on Barnett since last fall and he is still my favorite to fall to us. I am hoping teams will sour on him because he doesn't put up sexy combine numbers and isn't viewed as overly athletic. I do think though that we cant let last year success blind us from the fact that this team is full of holes and if we end up picking an offensive player due to being the best player available, that is what we should do.

I just hope both tight ends go before us because I absolutely hate taking tight ends in the 1st round. They almost always bust.

Best player available, best player at position of need. We can speculate all day. The truth is the front office has a process and matrix for picking their players. This would seem to compound when other teams want our spot and we have to reshuffle, but once again I believe there is a contingency plan for every move they make.

I like what they did last year (now). Tunsil was clearly the need, top player available. He was a home run. If we select Foster, then I trust in Gase to lead the young man to victory both on the field and off.

Agree. Especially when you consider he broke Reggie White's Tennessee's sack record. Let him keep flying under the radar and let us pounce.
That would be a beautiful pick. The TE pick would be annoying as hell. Unless it's Oj Howard, I can't see us taking a TE. That's just based on him being so gifted. Take Lamp before a TE pleaseee..

Teams insist publically on BPA so they can't be blamed when they reach for a pick. You'll never know the person they reached for isn't their "BPA".

I recently posted basically the same thing. Being a slave to needs over the years has cost the team a ton of talent and potentially a shot at a super bowl or two. Short list: Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Rob Gronkowski, Randy Moss, Ray Lewis, Vince Wilfork, Matt Ryan. In some cases, Miami got good players at those spots, but you get the point.

Interesting that you list Adoree Jackson. I love what Jackson brings to the table and feel he is a little underrated.

This should be common sense but its something this organization has lacked in years past.

As stated really we have three positions that we don't need more 1st round depth, QB, WR, RB. So taking the best player is going to help. We need younger DEs, another DT, another LB, another S, and always more safeties. That's just the defense.

The fins need to trade down to get more picks if that's the way that they're thinking, maybe to number 28 pick up a 3rd rounder.
